The insurance company is starting to talk about a settlement. This was mentioned by my case manager on the phone. I’m aware of “present value” offers. Am I right to think that the “present value discount rate” on your settlement calculator should be set higher towards the 5% due to the interest rates being higher lately? Some high interest savings account offer over 5% right now. This will affect me greatly. Thank you! ❤

I continue to receive private health plan LTD since my stroke Jan 2019. I have had to submit one update from my family doctor since. My LTD private health plan benefit will go to 2026 when I turn 65 and the LTD benefit will then end. I am alo receiving CPP Disability until I turn 65 when it will automaticall switch to CPP

I’m already approved for LTD and CPPD, but I have to do an IME soon. What happens if I get a denial of benefits after the IME and sue the insurance company, but I die before the case is resolved? Could my wife sue, or are they free of all responsibility of paying me? Thanks!

If a person dies, then the right to future benefits ends. However, the person's estate can sue the insurance company for past benefit owed up to the time of death.

Ask for it from your company. You want the group benefits booklet. It will have all group benefits descriptions, including the long-term disability

Yes. Your family income or assets are not a factor in eligibility for CPP disability payments.
