The road to successful recovery after a brain injury is never an easy journey and unfortunately, its not even a definitive one. There are many long-term effects of brain injury such as Parkinsons, Alzheimers, and short term amnesia that can affect your life, long after the initial brain injury. For more information on how you can help brain injury survivors, visit biak.us.

I am two and a half years into my head injury. I was told It has healed. Why am I getting worse? Headaches are getting worse, memory is getting worse, and confusion is getting worse. I am dealing with extreme anger.

Lou Please look for a Naturopathic Doctor. Supplements helped me far more in my recovery than any drug prescribed. See a Cognitive therapist, Speech therapist, and Vision therapist, all who specialize in treating those with TBI and PCS. I am 29 years post injury and everyday is a struggle. I am seeing an anxiety therapist currently. Don't let yourself be labeled a victim. We have been victimized and it is up to ourselves to fight the ongoing battle to heal. We will never be the same, but we can have quality of life - no matter what anyone else says or thinks. If you can make progress for yourself, become an advocate for those whom can't advocate for themselves. Make a difference in this world for exactly who you are! Few doctors or therapists understand a brain injury unless they have been thru it themselves. Believe in yourself.

Coming up on five years for me. The toughest the five years of my life. However, if you are reading this and have recently sustained a TBI, don't give up hope and the hard work. And yes, it will be the hardest work you have ever experienced, especially if your injury is in the cerebellum and has affected your psycho-motor functionality. Push yourself as much as you can. In the beginning it will be almost unbearable. But, I promise you it will become less difficult. However, you must be as patient as determined. It will take a long time, especially in your mind. Remember, your mind is much different now. And don't try explaining to family and friends. There isn't much you can do to alleviate their misunderstanding and frustration except working hard and showing them your resilience. It is hell my friends, but with great family and friends you will slowly get better. Don't give up. This too shall pass. The best of luck and God speed from a survivor coming on five years December 24th.

I must confess I absolutely deplore doctors I fell 4 stories through a barn shaft and I hurt my back in addition to the tbi to get a non narcotic medication that means I can walk work and function it's worse than crawling through glass to get the medication I need. I'm treated cold unsympathetic I'm treated like a junkie and it literally makes me want to I'm not going to say but I'm sure you get the point. I don't know what to do I meet people for the first time and they think I'm a weirdo that there is something wrong with me. I can't explain that I have a head injury that I didn't used to be like this and it hurts. It hurts worse than the injury itself I get rejected and I can't do anything about it. I can't remember girls names that I dated for months I have to write everything down or it's gone no matter how important it is. I want a doctor who understands that i am a person. I'm done I am a man and a person who is here in life and I want to be understood

Is there any scientific evidence that a brain injury could result in parkinsons or alzheimers in the future? I imagine it is very complicated to determine whether parkinsons came from genetics or if it resulted from the brain injury.

My husband got hurt on job, a 1,000lb Bram fell on his head which there was not fracture or bust open..he didn't have any signs of anything until 3 days later, then extreme headaches, light sensitivity, balance issues, ...this injury can result in blood clots or a aneurysm,....he had first MRI which showed he has a Arachnoid Cyst in brain which is pushing his brain over, his 2nd MRI showed he has a Putuitary Gland Tumor and hypothyroidism hypertension...he was only on pain meds, also magnesium oxide,...he refuses now to keep going to get a MRI or a CT scan....he doesn't do any follow ups with doctor, he got covid pneumonia and was one mask away from being put on the ventilator...these tumors have pushed on his chiasm which he now has tunnel vision...he has been declining in his cognitive and he has ran a few red lights, he has fallen asleep in his car when sitting there in the parking lot,..he also has sleep apnea, he has extreme fatigue, I can go on and on....he now has been on tik tok and buying all these natural herbs thinking he can cure himself, drinks all these herbs and teas and papaya and pineapples and soursop ..there is not real answers anywhere, I have read up on all his symptoms and his Tumor and Cysts..anyone have info?

Hi. I don't know if there's a long term cure for that, but fasting, ketogenic diet or supplemental ketones may help. I could also suggest Amy Berger's talks about Alzheimer's. Best of luck to you. Edit: i also watched a talk from Thomas Seyfried in which he makes claim, that cancer could be metabolically driven disease. I of course am just someone struggling with my own issues, and so can't claim to know anything substantial, but i've found dietary interventions offer perhaps the best help for me.

Kindly look into dangers - also to brain health - as result of taking in too little salt; especially alongside drinking too much water. This is very important specifically for the elderly, since having reduced capacity to hold on to salt. Yet all of us - even elite athletes - are in danger of developing electolyte imbalances - including life-threatening Hyponatremia. When it comes to healthy, natural, unprocessed fats: Our brain and nervous system mostly consist of fat, and a high fat diet is crucial for the brain and nervous system to develop and function properly. Additionally the human body - including the brain - is not as much cleaned with water, but mostly - similar to a machine - through healthy fats and oils. Important for example to lubricate the intestines - towards counteracting constipation, and to stimulate the production of detoxifying bile (which also enhances peristalsis); as well as to prevent fat soluble Vitamin ADEK deficiencies. Is it not high time we stop blaming Salt for the harm Sugar is doing? Altzheimers is now referrred to as T3Diabetes, and as Prof. Robert Lustig explains: High BP is in reality also caused by Sugar, not Salt. Interesting also to realise that the preferred fuel-source of the brain is not Glucose, but clean-burning fat - as Ketone bodies. To enhance brain health: Employ regular, self-healing intermittend (daily, as well as extended periods) of FASTING; thereby allowing enough time to detoxify from waste products; also by inducing Autophagy (the breakdown and elimination of old cells).

@@bobtaylor170 Maybe you'll be interested in Prof. Tim Noakes' book WATERLOGGED? He advises: DRINK TO THIRST. (They were pushing athletes to take in lots of fluids; until some of them died during performance.) As for myself - being older, and with suppressed metabolism: Drinking too much water, was causing urinary frequency/incontinence, because of suppression of anti-diuretic hormone. Was eventually able to rectify the condition by employing dry fasting and IBT (Inclined Bed Therapy), after undergoing the litigation-ridden sling-mesh operation; which only alleviated the condition for few months.

@@maricamaas2326 , my case is more ambiguous. My hyponatremia may have been caused by Diovan, the antihypertensive, instead of SIADH, but it was very bad. I lived on Gatorade for several months. Years later, I learned from a pharmacist/nurse that tomato juice is a much better source of sodium than Gatorade. In any case, hyponatremia can be a monster. I hope your own condition remains stable.
