Here is a review of my 12-volt refrigerator that I got on Amazon after using it for roughly 14 months straight. I think I paid $230 for it back then (the exact brand/model is the "SetPower AJ30") and in this video I go over how well it has worked all this time, and I also review my new fridge by the same brand, SetPower (the model is the "TC35").

I have three Alpicool cooler-style fridges that have run for a year and a half continuously. They use very little power and have been great! Try not to let the lid just drop. The latch on one of mine broke because I did that once. If you just gently lower the lid and lift the latch to engage it, this works fine and doesn't over-stress the plastic parts in the latch.

Same here. I have an Alpicool model that kinda looks like this gentleman's older fridge. Mine is a daily driver too. Semi "off grid". I hear people have damaged their lid latch too. You are right. You do not drop or slam the lid shut! I gently lower it and lift up on the latch and release it when lid is closed. It is a decent lil unit, but sometimes turns off with a nasty shake.

I have the same. Keep the voltage up. Trying to run on low voltage (battery running low) will damage the compressor.

Seeing more and more of the less expensive 12v fridge freezers that are doing good out there. A lot of truck drivers are getting them. I bought a Dometic cfx3 55. But I think the 12v compressor tech is catching up to the point you don't need to spend $900+.

Iceco brand uses the same high-end German compressor as dometic at 1/3 the price and 5-year warranty. Cheap compressors = 2-3year lifespan
@DutchK75
@DutchK75 Жыл бұрын
@@larryc1616 No they don't. Dometic has their own. And have for awhile. Non bluetooth VMOSO2 and bluetooth VMOSO3 compressors. Iceco is using a Secop that's made in China. No longer are the Danfoss/Secop compressors being manufactured in Denmark. They never were manufactured in Germany. Slovakia and China started manufacturing them after being bought by Secop. A German company. Secop was just sold to a Japanese company. The difference in Dometic and a Secop is that the Dometic is a variable speed compressor. It'll run from 2,000rpm to 3,500rpm at whatever speed is needed. The Secop is set speed. Low and high. 2,000rpm is low. And 3,500rpm is high. Dometic has a better cooling system. Promotes even cooling better. The Iceco's work. Not saying that. But are not as good. All the OEM's in RV's, Big trucks and boats now seem to heavily be Dometic. Swedish company. Iceco is a Indel B offshoot. They market their wares under many different names. Indel B, Iceco, Truck Fridge, Setpower in the states. And Adventure Kings in Australia. So on and so forth. IF you want the best you probably need to look at Engel, Snomaster and National Luna. Your going to pay. I have a Snomaster 85L Expedition dual zone that'll spank a Secop powered units ass. It'll pull more wattage. I've seen it pull high 80's in watts. But it cools like a home unit. And it'll do it in 115 degree weather. Coolstar makes the compressor and they are a San Jose based firm. The compressor is made in China. But Coolstar is what every cold section in every grocery store is running practically. And the Snomaster is a variable. 7 year warranty. I can run my Snomaster as a dual zone for 53-58 hours with the freezer set at 0 and the fridge set at 35. From my Bluetti EB200. On a single charge. My buddy Tyler has the same power station and he only gets max 40-45 hours running his VL65 Iceco as a dual zone. Mine is bigger. Better insulated. Better cooling system. Better electronics and compressor. 🤷‍♂️

@@Wabajak13 😂 I'm a 12v fridge/freezer Goober. Psst I have 7...🤨 And have had 11 in total. Only one has died a horrific death. A Indel B TB51. But it was my fault. I left it running in my big rig with nothing in it. And probably 120+ degrees in the cab. Not the fridges fault. I recommend these 12v fridge/freezers to drivers all the time. These Setpower and Alpicool's seem to be the most appealing for guys. And the ones who have bought them still have them. Iceco is well represented with guys I know. They work too. I just want to see the 5+ year returns on these cheap ones.

Dude, I love your videos. They're so freaking relatable and real, and not fancy or bouche. I can't deal with all these fancy, commercial focused vandwellers anymore. They've gotten on my last nerves. I've been trying to find my old school vandwellers who were on here around 2010 and a lot of them have deleted their freaking videos. So thankfully we have you. Anyway, I bought a Setpower because you recommended it. I got the bought the TC35 too but it's going to be too big. I just don't have any space in my 2020 Santa Fe since I need to keep my back passenger seat down to have somewhere to sit (I'm too tall to sit on my bed). Anyway, just wanted to give you a shout-out. I have had an Alpicool 12v fridge that someone gifted me 2 years ago. It looks very similar to your smaller one, but it didn't come with a basket. (Not that there's room for it!) The lid opens like your newer one. They were about $200 on Amazon. I totally understand the logistics issues you addressed! Certain things can only go a certain way, in a certain place! 🤓🤓 I appreciate your detailed reviews, in case I need to ever replace my Alpicool. 👏👍

Hey! I have exactly same the one you have. I had it for almost year. Still runs great. However the power supply cord broke off so I couldn’t use power supply but I’m able to hook it to cigarette lighter adapter straight to house battery in my van. No complaint about this fridge. Recommend it if you’re on budget. Now I’m looking for new one. Bit more bigger. I eat lot. 😅 Edited. I had 2 deep cycles batteries 200AH. 100 each. My fridge barely drain my batteries. It had 200 watts solar panels to keep filling my batteries.

Awesome review as always and love your dog being part of the review! Bring coziness and warmth, no need to apologize. I am curious about one thing not mentioned here; what is the average Watt consumption of each device ? For people who camp , especially in small cars, the use of any electronics, average Watt usage/consumption (per hour and per day) is sth very important! Please consider mentioning about power draw. Love you man, you are chill, low key and a warm person !! Hugs to your dog.

These new compressor 12 volt coolers are really fantastic! I used to buy the heat pump 12 volt coolers, but they took more power, they didn’t have a safety cutoff to keep you from killing your car’s battery and they were only capable of dropping the temperature by 40°F. If your car was over 100°F inside, which happens easily, your food could spoil. I keep mine on eco, because it’s just plugged into my cigarette lighter.
@MountainSpringsAdventures
@MountainSpringsAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I forgot to mention that this is not a thermogenic cooler, but a real compressor refrigerator. And yeah those thermogenic coolers use way more power and don't even work twice as good, and these fridges also have the low voltage protection so that if you're 12 volt battery goes under a certain voltage, it will shut off so it doesn't drain your 12 volt battery

Max mode makes it cool down faster but uses more energy. Eco mode sips energy and is good to use normally once the desired temperature has been reached. It would be better to use max mode to get down the temperature and then switch to eco mode.

Do the two fridges sit in the right read seat footwell? I saw that the ‘old’ one sat on something to enable it to be plugged in. Mine is a different model and is just under an inch too wide to sit fully down in the footwell, so I have it sitting on a couple of blocks to level it. That’s not a deal breaker, but but is a bit inconvenient, so if yours fits completely, I might have to change.

eco mode lowers the temp range tolerance (larger range) and also lowers the current sent to the 12v compressor. therefore the ecomode will cool more slowly, will run the compressor for longer at a time, and will use less energy but take longer to come down to temp once new things are placed inside. by not running the compressor at full bore it essentially makes the compressor more efficient and also generates less heat that soaks back into the fridge from the compressor compartment. most of these fridge screens are all made by the same chinease factory (even the big name brands) and you can "hack" them by holding certain button combinations since the same control boards are used in several different units. for example i believe on the set-power you can hold the + and - buttons and change the temp range for some of the error codes. havent tried messing with this. also you can change from F to C by holding i think the 1st and 3rd button (left to right). they also use these controller boards in wine coolers so there is a way to program in a locked range of temps so it wont get too cold and also wont be able to be changed accidentally/by someone else or kids... i think it might be done by holding the 1st and 2nd button for like 5 sec.

Can you run that fridge inside the car on a hot day with the windows up (or just barely cracked) and powered by your bluetti? Could it handle parking all day in the sun in summer in Texas. Or is that too extreme for the fridge to keep food in the safe 38-42 degree zone?

Would either of those fridges fit in the car on top of the folded down back seats, or in the back near the hatch? My wife and I do camping trips in my prius and we still have the back seats, so we wouldn't be able to drive with the fridge behind the passenger seat the way you do. When we camp we could move it there. Also, does your new taller fridge sit on that same plastic container?

I think I would like one with a double lid, one for freezer, one for fridge compartment, for obvious reasons. And I guess Bluetti has more charge cycles 'battery life span' than the comparable Jackery according to the Guru of RVliving. I think he was comparing the 2000watt models and found out that the Bluetti had almost fifty percent to double that of the Jackery. So, for me anyways, its a no brainer to get the one he was endorsing.

@baneverything5580
@baneverything5580 2 жыл бұрын
The smaller power stations usually run them for over 24 hours. The Bluetti probably powers it for twice that or more. It depends on several things like ambient air temperature and settings. The best thing to do though is already have the refrigerator cold if possible when you plug it in to the power station using an AC adapter at home or your car 12 volt going to the camping area.

I recently powered my fridge for about 4 days straight with this power station. It will go longer or shorter than that depending on various circumstances. I'm sure in the winter time it will go longer because the fridge doesn't have to work as hard to keep cool

ECO-nomy mode saves battery power. Max power runs full power all the time and ECO let's it "idle" after reaching it's set temperature. That's a poor explanation but hopefully you get the idea. Have a good one my friend.

Howdy! I've been looking for one of these for when I go car camping. I think I'm going to go with the new fridge you bought. Sounds like you can get it down close to freezing so no need for a dual fridge/freezer system. Can you speak to its power consumption? I use a 35 amp hour deep cycle battery that I put together in a battery box that has USB/Car Charging ports. Would this be enough to power this unit? Do you use just your car battery? if so, how often do you start your car to keep your battery charged when using your fridge? Thanks much for any info you can share. Rich W.

How does your sleeping space line up with the new fridge? It seems like the new fridge is slightly taller, and might cause your sleeping area to be uneven. If you could, could you share your dimensions of your sleeping platform and your height? The reason I am asking is because I plan to use the fridge as an extension of my sleeping area. Is that necessary? I'm 5'10.

Are the air vents blocked on old / new fridge. ? Get a dual battery system. ! Place a, say, 150 watt panel to roof racks and or a 25 amp Redarc system & plug panel into the Redarc. Can't go wrong mate. I use a 140 amp AGM Deep Cycle in a battery box behind the seats. If you have the battery inside the car, MUST be AGM. No Battery fumes.
