You said you can't record raw video with this directly. But can you use the 40 fps on raw photos continuously? If so, you could get a 40 fps raw video indirectly.

You could, but you wouldn’t be able to go continuously for more than a couple seconds. The V90 cards are close, but not quite enough. Maybe C-Raw would work, but there is no way to edit it affectively.

I’ve been debating on if I should get an R7 or an R8. I’m a content creator for a college athletic department and I’m mostly looking to get a combination of photos and videos for our sport teams. If you have experience with shooting sports, do you have a recommendation of which would be better?

For sports, I would recommend the R7. Because it has a faster mechanical shutter, sensor-shift stabilization, and a higher resolution APS-C sensor. It’s going to be a better option. What about the R8 for sports video and photos for beginners? I've been researching and comparing the R8 to other Eos cams and am almost set on the R8 over the R7. Anything will be better than using my cell. I'll be shooting some vid/pics of my son's basketball and football games. The R8 seems like the way to go. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Yes, the R8 is far superior to the R7 in low light. Overheating is only an issue in direct sunlight when recording 4K60 in C-Log. As far as the fx30 goes, it is a superior camera for video, especially if you are able to take advantage of its ProRes raw capabilities through HDMI. If you’re doing a lot of low light video or photography the R8 is better. The Sony is also more expensive and if you already have a bunch of canon lenses it may not be the best decision. @@johnmorrisproductions thanks. Currently have no system! Sold Fuji (hated AF). I’m not going to use external recording only internal. I’ll be recording 10-15 minute clips at most, and care about image quality and color the most! Does that lean R8 over Sony?

There very similar, the fx30 is probably going to look a little better in bright environments. But the AF won’t be as good, and it’s definitely not as good for photos. If you want to get the best video quality, I would recommend getting a Black Magic Cinema Camera. Currently the Pocket 6KG2 is on sale for the same price as the R8. I use the Pocket 6K and it absolutely blows the Canon cameras out of the water. However, there is no AF.

Overall, if you want something easy to use that has great auto-focus and works for everything, I would recommend the R8. If you want the best video quality and don’t care about auto focus for battery life but I would recommend getting a BlackMagic Camera. And the Sony is in between the BlackMagic and the Canon.

It depends. I haven’t tested that directly, because if you set it to burst mode in electronic you could take several thousand photos. But maybe only 100 if you are using single shooting and leaving the camera on for a while. It really depends on the situation, what would you like me to test?

Sure! I’m actually quite busy in the next week so I will work on that as soon as I can. In the meantime, you should be able to get a full days use out of the camera for travel with two or three batteries. But again it does depend on your settings. love my R8 the only reason it's not my main camera is the dumb reason it can't record internally and through HDMI at the same time. I use a ninja v to record a backup, not paying 1000$ for the r6 m2 for just that feature. my old Eos R can do this so stupid

V30 is fine for video, but for photos V60/V90 would be ideal.

Nothing can increase sales of R8. Whenever A7c exists the R8 is dead, the spec doesn't matter. Price and lens matter. The Kit lens sucks. For example- To start, if I buy A7C and Tamron 24mm f2.8 it may cost (154000+22000BDT) 1700USD in my country (Bangladesh). Also has a Viltrox option for non-IS 24mm at this price. For R8 I need a lens with IS (it is a must)--- So R8 and 24mm f1.8 = (165000BDT+ 58000BDT) = 2000USD.

I can match my budget with A7C but not with R8. Having IBIS in 1500price point is great with so many fast lenses.

Sure! If you can get the Sony for cheaper and ibis is important than get that. From my perspective the R8 is better, but maybe not for you. I don’t care about ibis very much personally, but I use gimbals, tripods, and stabilized lenses. So whatever works for you!

I think you may not believe me but all the R or RP user in my country or low-income country want to switch but R8 need to price somewhere between 1299-1399USD then it will match with A7c as R8 must need 24mm or 35mm with IS. Why R10 is one of the best-selling Canon RF cameras- because the downed its price 100USD which makes it competitive.

For what it is, I think the R8 is priced well in the US. I know that Canon has not been pricing the cameras very competitively in other countries.
