In this Episode we Install a pair of Extended Travel GM Struts from a 1993 Pontiac Grand Prix on the Overland Suzuki Sidekick Build. This is in no way a professional installation by any means but rather the efforts of an avid “do-it-yourselfer”.
We Tackle the camber issues and make some custom parts to assist in the install as well as the set-up of the wheel camber. The idea behind the longer travel shocks is to complement and work in conjunction with the 2” Budget Lift and the 2” Body lift installed some years ago.
The Goal is to enhance the off-road capabilities of the little Sidekick as it explores and discovers hidden adventures off-road in the Arizona Desert over varied terrain conditions that challenge even the most accomplished of Off-Roaders.
So climb in and let’s watch Cal attempt to “Stick Weld” for the first time ever as he shares his own unique style and shares some secret welding tips.

Great job. I’m about to do a Homemade 4” Lift in my 1990 Tracker. I bought the same Grand Prix struts that u recommended in one of your earlier videos. Thanks for your help by making these videos

Sweet... Is it a 4" body lift or Suspension lift or perhaps, 2" body lift combined with a 2" Budget Puck lift? That will actually give you closer to 5" of total lift. Pontiac Struts up front, Ford Shocks in the rear with perhaps some 4dr Coil springs...... This was a difficult video to make, but I wanted the viewer to fully understand how to deal with the camber issues up front. I did a terrible job but it rides real good...you can feel the firmness in the front suspension and it handles the dirt really well... Good luck on your project and drop a pic by every now and then Cal@tuff-trails.com Thank you for your comment!

Thanks for your reply. Didn’t get a notification of your Reply. Sorry for my late response. Appreciate your in put. I’m following your Suspension build. I’m doing a 2” body lift and doubled up the 2” puck lift to make 4” suspension lift. I’m forwarding a picture. Please let me know what u think. Pic is of the rear. Starting the front soon

Awesome video. I have a 92 2dr. With a 2" puck and 2" body. I might just have to try this out. Are you running stock coils with that puck lift?
@tufftrails
@tufftrails 3 ай бұрын
YES stock coils all around....until I can score some 4dr Springs lol... I need to take care of a couple more issues before I can take it out to the desert and beat on it a little to get a feel for the longer struts.

Those wheels look like deep dish ( American Racing) wheels. Wish I had 5 of those for my side kick. Does anyone have a part number on those? Our law 1 has wheels simulator to those but I don’t know if they have the deep dish. Outlaw 2’s are similar also but don’t have the holes in them.

I get that question so much, seems you inquired before, I think. Our Tan 94 also has a set, but I had to buy a whole Jeep to get them (it was wrecked) And the ones on the Copper TinTop I bought off of craigslist. I have looked everywhere to find them so I can tell folks what they are and who makes them. On the back of the wheel are some numbers, and an SAE Code...but when I google them I get nothing. SAE J2530 JF-PC This comes back as some manufacturing standard. This number stands alone, 81031510 Then there is a DOT-T and 139.7 which is probably the 5x5.5 bolt hole pattern If you track down any of these numbers or identify the wheel, let me know please...

Willie, these are Pro Comp Wheels, they are very close. amzn.to/3UEld54 15x10 I wonder if these are just an updated version of my older wheels.

What do the new struts accomplish?
@tufftrails
@tufftrails 26 күн бұрын
Longer Travel to support the Puck Lift, A stiffer and more solid ride when off-road, Increased longevity over the stock struts, and decreases roll when cornering and saves money on over-priced brand name suspension kits, and personal preference while providing full utility of the suspension. Currently installing a set on the current 92 build. Thank you for your comment
