Yeah, finally a video that does justice to this wonderful bass. Nevertheless it’s pointing out heavily the soloist sides of its sound. I play mine since 1980 and it got me so much gigs and studio work. It’s just amazing how it sits in the sound of any band. Recently I record with an symphonic orchestra and no other could do the job, enriching the sound of it, except the alembic. Other basses just didn’t melt in the sound. The alembic did. Some weeks later I was on stage with a heavy metal band on a big festival, right before the soundcheck I got smiles from the soundcrew. 1 min for dialing it in on the giant system…. Done. They told it was the best sound they had that day. This aspect of getting it full and cool sound, it’s just what you need, when you have to get your job done. Thank you alembic for this instrument.

Very smart point about the Rickenbacker. It's the only bass that has much of the same sound of the Alembic with the filters open.

I tried a Series 2 in the UK a long time ago, loved it but the weight was just too much for me. The Series 1 in the video is beautiful. Hardly play four strings now, most of my work is done on the Chapman Stick. Loved the vide Johnny, appreciate your love and enthusiasm for the instrument.

I play a 77 fretted and a custom 82 fretless series l, and I can only agree, theres nothing that compares to Alembic series basses, tone wise or playability. I've played for 43 years and have had dozens of different basses, now I have the two old alembic, and one or two other brands, but I'm playing the alembic. Got about 500 improv videos up on the youtube

Love this testament. Thank you for showing it all that love. I first heard this instrument live at the first Montreal Jazz Fests 81-82 - I was 16-17 years old bass-playing sound engineer. Monstrous sound and stunning in the hands of the masters. That tone has been printed in my head ever since. Can spot it in a crowd like my own mothers voice. The double output box is important - monster players could afford to have an amp/cab for each pickup. For example - MESA 2 x15" on the neck pickup and an SVT 8 x10 on the neck pickup. With a fuzz! 🙂 Stanley Clarke used to have all the regular bass gear and small Fender amp distorting the bridge pu and mic'd with a 57 like a guitarist. Mix that all together and you get clean low growl, snappy highs and a weird stereo effect that is amazing LIVE!

There was an Alembic craze in the late 70's because of Stanley but when the 80's came around they got rid of them. A lot of them started playing Stingrays. I knew a gigging bassist who had an Alembic back then and he got rid of his because he said it sounded too twangy. He switched to a Jazz bass

I always wanted a Series one! I bought a 5 string Elan in the 90's but didn't like that it had no taper to the neck. Also would have like bass and treble along with the filter. I would like to order a custom Series One 6 string to my specs!
