Good job navigating the top of Alligator River into the sound. When we came South down the sound we were in 5-7 footers behind us until we made the turn to go into the river, we were rolling big time and actually got pushed onto that sand bar. No damage to the boat but an awful night. Tow boat wouldn't come out because it was so rough. Got towed to deep water the next day after the wind calmed down. Tow boat said he does alot of towing off that sand bar!

Geeze what an experience!! I can imagine that area super rough and that does not sound like a good night… at all. At least y’all stuck through it, got towed the next day, and were off! We actually just passed this southbound and are buddy boating with a sailboat. Since they are very wind cautious it was not too bad plus I had our track from heading north!

Tried to catch ya'll in Elizabeth City Sat. morning but you had departed . Safe travels !

Thanks Edward! Unfortunately our videos are quite a bit behind, they take a lot of time to edit and we had a lot of learning done earlier this year so we were extra behind. We were in Elizabeth City in mid-may but we'd love to catch up at sometime! Are you on the Loop now or based out of Elizabeth City?

It's cool to watch your progress. How far are you hoping to get on the loop before winter?
@SchoandJo3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Our original goal was to make the loop in 2021 (as this was filmed back in May that seemed probable) but we ran into some issues in the Chesapeake and now we're gonna find someplace warm to navigate too while Winter comes. KZbin should be caught up at the end of the month though!

Really appreciate the hi-res video! What made you pick this route versus the Virginia Cut / Coinjock?
@SchoandJo3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Jim! We chose this route because we thought the Dismal Swamp sounded neat. We both like hiking and outdoors activities so we thought we'd give it a shot. The downsides of it are typically related to debris in the water fouling a prop but since we are a single screw and its pretty well protected we decided it was worth the shot. That being said it is looking like we are goin to get the opportunity to explore the Virginia Cut route in the future and then we can really give a full opinion!

There are some beautiful eagles on the Pungo Canal. Got some great pics on my last passage through there. There's a great little marina at the Alligator River bridge. Nice place to fuel up and grab some cheeseburgers from the grill there. As a local, don't pronounce Albemarle with "e" on the end. In fact most of just say "Albemar". Sounds like you're heading up the Dismal Swamp canal. Be darn careful and keep a watch on the bow at all times and don't go over 5kn. There are all kinds of logs and limbs just below the surface and can fudge up your prop or warp the shaft. Spend the night at the welcome center, good overnight stop to rest. Best of luck from MV Play Harder.

Thanks Tim! Love the tips! I remember hearing some other boaters heading to that marina, good to know its a good stop! We are heading up the Dismal Swamp, and are super excited. Thanks again for all the advice!

Love Ollie. ♥️♥️♥️. She is really adjusting to boat life and has found her First Mate seat on the fly bridge. Great job sharing the duties at the helm. Super video. Also love the architecture references. 👍👍👍

Great video. Love how you show the scenery from the water and from the cities where you stop. I'm just always amazed that you have enough cell service to take care of business.
@SchoandJo3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Holger! It's pretty surprising to us as well.. For this video we did lose service during all of Alligator River and crossing the Albermarle Sound, which was definitely not normal!
@a1ar1273 жыл бұрын
Looks like a pretty calm crossing of the Albermarle Sound. Btw you don’t pronounce the "e" on the end☺️
@SchoandJo2 жыл бұрын
Wasn't that calm for us, we were rocking and rolling! But it was hitting us on the beam so pretty much worst case scenario for weather direction... The camera never seems to pick up how rocky it is :)

Great video. Any 12 hour day is tough...BUT adding in the tempermental Albermarle Sound at the end of the day (get to marinaitus) just ups the ante. I have a pic of that same Coke sign. South of you is a town called New Bern which was the birtplace of Pepsi. Never found a big building sign but did go to Bradhams Pharmacy. Stay Safe!
@SchoandJo3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jeffrey! Wow that's interesting that New Bern is the birthplace of Pepsi, we'll have to stop by if we get the chance. Thanks for the information!

Great video as always, but it's "know" not "konw" ... LOL. Sorry, couldn't resist being a spelling monster. I'm planning on solo looping next year in an incredibly eclectic boat, so you're definitely inspiring me.
