just a question, if you are going to spend hours targeting strong, deep water fish why not have at least 1 trailing hook? I know they have good eyesight but reducing your bite rate slightly to decrease the chance of losing the fish sounds good to me
@marcopugliese594610 ай бұрын
Swordfish have extremely soft mouths. More hooks in their mouths=more holes in the their mouths= less fish landed

Good question. Maybe another hook means a possible rigging failure when one seems to catch big fish just fine. Giant tuna are often caught on single hooks too

One time while drift fishing with a herring by an oil rig only about 9 miles out in the Gulf I hooked something big and very strong. While still close to the rig a big Sailfish jumped straight up out of the water just 3 feet from the boat as I stood there in shock. Then he took off taking drag like crazy off my 50lb test stand up rig. Several hundred feet away now he jumped. He jumped several more times then from about 150 feet away he attacked..... tail walking right at the stern of my boat. I froze......That sailfish aimed right at me and came up and into the boat with his slashing bill stopping 6 inches from my stomach. The only thing that stopped him was he wedged himself between the motor and side of the motor well. Meanwhile my fishing buddy had gotten up on the bow and was about to jump overboard had the sailfish gotten into my 20 foot boat. He thrashed about as I jumped back then slid off the boat and went to the bottom about 120 feet deep. I fought him hard for another 45 minutes before finally bringing him in and found that the line had been tangled around his body and fin....I'm guessing from his attack. I had never been attacked by a fish before especially one over 9 feet long with a 2 foot spear for a nose. When we got back to the marina there happened to be an Outdoor Writer for the newspaper and my experience got written up in the newspaper. Sailfish are tough and mean and can be very aggressive I found out.....LOL
