I bought one of these in August (in the blue dial)! I am very happy with it. One other cool feature: Power-saving mode, when you pull out the crown the hands stop moving but it continues to keep internal time.

VERY nice... from a fantastic brand with huge heritage (world's oldest trademark logo as well of course). With the GMT numbering on the rehaut it makes sense for the GMT hand to be top of the stack. Come to think of it, it should really be that way on all GMTs. Thanks for bringing this watch to my attention!

I’d want it smaller and more WR for the perfect travel watch. Something to wear to the pool and wouldn’t need to leave the wrist the whole trip. Neat watch nonetheless. I love that polished dark hands/indices look.

@poulwinther3 жыл бұрын
@@msaylorBTC100M Really? Why would they do 41 and 43, then jump all the way to 36mm? At least if the middle one had been 39 or 40 it would make a bit of sense. 41mm is huge for Longines because all their lugs are so stupidly long.
@anthonyonline47403 жыл бұрын
@@poulwinther 49mm l2l isn't too bad. I think the 36 will be thier ladies variant.
@poulwinther3 жыл бұрын
@@anthonyonline4740 I learned to skip anything above 48mm - just because of how it wears on my wrists. Maybe it's not too much for a 41, but still a 43mm SKX has 46mm lugs and wears like a dream. Personally I sold my Longines heritage chronograph because of the 50mm lugs (on a 40mm watch!) It just looked ridiculous imo. But perhaps these are so curved that I could deal with 49mm. I would have to try it and I do like the idea of a quartz GMT since I travel a lot.

Alright so, to make things clear about the battery situation. The hands will jump when the battery is low. Then watch will go in hibernation mode, and still keep time for 6 months. When it comes to replace the battery, it's not more complicated than any other Quartz watch. It uses a renata 380, when you remove the battery, the watch can be left up to 24 hours without one, after that, it needs to go back to Longines to reprogram the Calendar. Just buy the battery ahead of time and that's it. I've done it on mine, zero problems! If you follow Longines guidelines, you'll never have to set the perpetual calendar. I have the 3 hander L288. The battery is rated for 4 to 5 years... Possibly a touch more if you use the battery saving feature when you don't wear the watch!

btw the date also changes with +/- hrs so if you set hong kong as your travel time and london as home and it was 9pm uk as you switched back and forth the date changes to the correct date for the time zone. It also has a near perpetual calendar and also shifts with BST/GMT changes. The second hand selects the "home" or "travel" time using the wee house and plane icons.

Many thanks for the review Rob, I must admit I'm very tempted for this one. Good review. Question though. If watch battery is depleted and I loose all settings. Can I then reset/re-synchronise the watch by just using the app? In the older non-GMT variant it was impossible and one would be required to send it back to Longines.

About that water resistance... In sailing, you need very accurate Quarz watches if using a sextant. As a 4 seconds error results in 1 nautical mile error. Now when you are in constant saltwater, with waves washing over the deck that can have pretty big impacts, a higher water rating would definitely be welcome. I am specifically looking for a watch for that purpose. I'm definitely open to recommendations!

I own both! The Longines is a better watch in every way except one, the case finishing. The hands and indices on the Longines are better and better finished than both of my Oceanus (T200/T4000). Although the T200 has Bluetooth and Multiband 6, the Longines L288 can be accurate without need of any assistance... And that's a huge plus on the long term! One advantage the Oceanus has, is that they are solar! But if I could only keep one, between the T200 and my VHP L288, I'll keep the VHP. Cheers
