Longplay of Goemon's Great Adventure

Whew this one took a while. It's the 2D platformer sequel to the first Goemon game. I enjoyed this one a lot more because it's more linear and doesn't require a guide unless you want to get all of the entry passes. In this video I collect all of the entry passes, even though it doesn't seem to result in anything. There's several that can only be collected after you finished the game. All feels really pointless knowing there's no big congratulations screen at the end of it, but okay. Everything about this game is just good and it holds up pretty well up to this day. Only pet peeve I seem to have with the Goemon games are the resolutions being all over the place. Most of the gameplay seems to have this large overscan added that I want cropped out, but the cutscenes and boss fights don't have it. Rather than opting for just one crop throughout the entire video as we usually do, I used a different crop for both cutscenes/boss fights and actual gameplay. There doesn't seem to be a perfect way to do it, so I did what I found was best. If I hadn't, there'd be this large black frame around the gameplay and I don't think the devs intended that.

If you talk to the wise man after collecting all the passes, it unlocks extra costumes you can buy at the shops, 3 per character, and also a hidden 4-player trick you can do per level. They could've made it more obvious, but there is a reward for it 😄

The title of the game doesn't lie, this is really a great game and is as fun as the first game and even the SNES games, and the gameplay is even more fast paced.

The running/animation speed looks wrong in some parts of the town area. What's your emulator/settings?

I hope that's not actually the case. This was played through Ares v133 on Bizhawk. The other day I played Custom Robo and walking speed was super fast because controller sensitivity was set to 200%. Might be the case here too, incase the movement is too fast.

@@longplayarchiveThe movement doesn't look too fast, just the animation. Not in all parts though (and not only in the town area). For instance, in 19:30 the running animation is too fast. Normally, this animation is triggered when you hold B to run... But this also makes Goemon run faster than that and you also get some dust effects. Edit: I just tried the game on Ares v.135 and the animation speed is correct. So maybe something is wrong with Bizhawk or v.133.

The boss robot fights in this game are terrible. Too intense for my heart condition. I seem to enjoy playing the rest of the game though. Any tips for the boss robot fights? They are so difficult and long-lasting!

@opboss8683 Agreed, the lack of special move usage during the Impact fights definitely had them drag on long. Unsure how you're supposed to learn the moves though. I never played this one, but I did play the predecessor, and I think maybe the manual had the special move combos in it?
