Micro Machines for the GameCube.. it got cancelled in the USA for the Xbox and GameCube release and is therefore a PAL exclusive for those systems. It was released in both the USA and the EU for the PS2 however. I can't say it's very good. There's 4 tournaments, each with 4 races each but they get increasingly more difficult as the opponents get better and faster with each tournament. ONE LITTLE MISTAKE can make you lose the entire tournament. You have to drive at near perfection and also get lucky in the first few seconds of the race to have any chance of winning. The controls are mega sensitive and bumping into another car can ruin your race (and thus tournament) entirely. I skipped over the tournaments and just showed every race as a single race instead. This allowed me to record good gameplay and you also don't really miss out on anything compared to playing the 4 tournaments, as their ending screen is nothing worth showing. I tried to emulate this game so I could just save state the tournaments but it doesn't run on emulation without a ton of audio bugs. 16 races, ultra sensitive controls and near impossible tournaments. That sums this game up. One thing I do like about is this game is that there's no rubberbanding unlike most racing games! Rubberbanding AI is when the CPU drives faster when you're in first position. This is a rare game where they don't have that. Instead, all CPU's just drive at a consistent speed. The speed they drive at on the single races is very fair and fun, but their speed in the tournaments is way less forgiving.

I remember grinding so much to get the motorcycles. The controls were definitely hard, but the level design was amazing!

Fun fact: The developer of this game, Gremlin Interactive (Infogrames Studios Sheffield at the time) briefly owned DMA Design, the company behind Grand Theft Auto, in 1997. Gremlin published Body Harvest and Space Station Silicon Valley for the N64 with DMA Design developing the titles. Gremlin was acquired by Infogrames in 1999 and DMA was sold to Take-Two. Gremlin also created one of my favorite strategy games of all time, Hogs of War for the PS1.

It turns out this game has some very intriguing content that was cut out and edited just before it was released. It was kept as concept art which you can unlock in the game and view by collecting the three secret stars in one of the Grand Prix levels. -Grizzly Beard was originally called Alligator Aberdeen. -Magenta was originally called Ellis and had a completely different design. -Elmo had a completely different design. -Callaghan was originally called Columbo and was kept like that for quite some time during development. -Miami Mike's hair was a different colour. -Danger Ranger had a different colour mask. -WAY more vehicles were going to be drivable such as jets, planes, tanks and hang gliders.
