I absolutely love monkey ball but I hate the first game for it's difficulty. The extra stages are unlocked by not dying once. This is do-able on Beginner and do-able on Advanced after some practice.. but on Expert? Really tough. If you make it through expert without using any extra continues, you'll unlock the Master stages. Now this is where things get EXTREMELY frustrating. My previous longplay was 80% real hardware and 20% emulation. Back then my real hardware recordings were done with composite cable so the emulation part of my old video looks A LOT better than the former part. This new longplay is all emulation, not gonna lie about it. I couldn't finish this game without it. If you can, I bow down DEEPLY to you. I know it's humanely possible as some speedrunners have done it, but for the other 99.9%... you're not going to. Anyway, it's an extremely enjoyable game if you play it on emulator... but I think Super Monkey Ball 2 is better as it's not horrendously difficult and has a simple stage select. I've also included the bonus minigames. I love the Monkey Golf especially. Very simplistic and fun. Can be played multiplayer.

@@longplayarchive you're exaggerating lmao. getting to master is definitely hard dont get me wrong but its very much doable once you get pretty good at the game. most people won't put in the time to do so but 99.9% is a bit of a stretch.

@@longplayarchive, it’s Beginner and Advanced if you lose a single life you will be taken straight to the ending cutscene once you complete the difficulty (no extra floors), this is the same across all three versions of the game (North American, European, and Japanese) In Expert you must complete the difficulty without losing all lives meaning if you complete Expert in Super Monkey Ball 1 if you lose lives but not use a continue you will still be able to access the Expert Extra floors, so if you want to reach Expert Extra you will need to practice the stages without using a continue, do not attempt completing Expert without losing a single life because it’s extremely hard (there are 45 hard floors (5 bonus floors that do not count losing a single life)), make sure you collect all bananas on Bonus Stages in Expert, I start out with a 4 player and if one gets a continue I exit that player out If you reach Master make sure you have infinite continues, but if you use a continue in Expert Extra you will not be able to reach the Master stages

You learned patience and had fun at the same time! Best fun ever!!! Throw in the fact Dad (me) loved playing this stuff as much as ever and would always try to be ever so slightly ahead of the kids and everything....but the youngest could grab a controller and play about the same time they could make full sentences and wipe the floor with everyone else since they were up hours before everyone else and had the tv to themselves for a while .... ::face palm:: 🌴 😁❤️

@@foxspirit4554 true story!! My oldest daughter was like 3 ish when we got a GameCube and a couple of games. And I'd get up with her, make her a little breakfast and ask if I could nap on the couch while she played a bit and wake me whenever you want. She loves the game, having the TV to herself for a bit and daddy gave her quick easy yummy breakfast/snack until lunch or whatever.... Yeah, then hey kiddo you want to try to play with me and your mom on Sonic or something. 😲 I thought my controller was broken I got schooled so hard. And she was maybe 4. Lots of fun over the years with video games lol

I grew up playing this on a McDonald's play place kiosk every morning before kindergarten such fun with the race trials and party games! My mom was trying her best to make me happy , I love her for that . Parents and fun games are invaluable.

@@foxspirit4554 oh my kids did that .. I remember for like 3ish years I'd usually take them to school because their mom worked mornings typically, I was a night owl, it worked fine. We'd already be awake so one would have to be at elementary at one time and other started like 45 minutes later so breakfast at McDonald's and then play video games for half hour with Dad (me) or other kids but usually nearly empty til we were heading out. Then hop in the car, blast Barbie girl or Pour Some Sugar on me or whatever the heck they wanted... louder? Well, if you insist... for the last few minutes on way to school. Pick up line at school....kids get in.... So how was your day and, "Do you wanna get rocked!?" before we were out of the line 😁

A tough choice indeed. Personally, I have a tremendous amount if nostalgia for Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 GCN ports as well, and Sonic Heroes is pretty good too, although I think that’s the last good 3D sonic game for a good while.

My older brother and I played that mode religiously. He would always tease that the shadow of the Dole blimp in the water was a shark. The mysterious super monkey ball shark became a running joke. Never could land that tiny target island!

Oh the GameCube, how I miss using you. I loved this and 2 as a kid, never made it past advanced on either of them because I was dumb and stupid and 6 years old, but I still loved these and played the absolute hell out of Monkey Billiards. Sucks that from what I've heard, every single Monkey Ball game after this (of which I'd heard of none of them growing up) are either awful or a mixed bag. Can't believe this series of all things had an open world rpg at some point.

I love this game so much. 😊 I just wish this exact version of the game made it to Banana Mania, with all the voices and stylistic choices intact (but the reduced difficulty of later versions is welcome). I also really miss the way the music cuts out right as it starts for some levels. I know it’s not supposed to do that, and they fixed it in later iterations of the game, but still.
