One of my SNES favorites and a great Co-op game. You can choose from a ton of different weapons and items for slaying zombies, aliens, sea creatures and all kinds of classic horror movie monsters. The chainsaw killer was censored to a Lumberjack in the european version… he still tries to kill you though. The credits level at the end is a very nice gimmick.

This game is insanely foundational to my love of horror. It's one of the first horror things - be it a movie, book, show, game, etc - that I was ever exposed to. Some things are so deeply nostalgic they kinda can't be described in simple terms as "I've loved this since I was a kid!" They're more elemental than that. Everything about this game and how it presents its horror in a bright, poppy, comic booky, kinda punk rock-ish way is still an tone and aesthetic I adore when I see it. The way it skewers early 90s suburbia is also deeply imprinted into my psyche, lol.

I was born in 1990. My grandma babysat me every day from as a baby to maybe 10 years old. I was in diapers, and she had a Super Nintendo that I always played. I remember playing this game at her house when i was a little kid. Seeing this takes me back to that time. Sadly my grandma passed away in 2016. I miss her.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors was originally developed by LucasArts. It was published by Konami, a company already known for platformers in 1993. Music for the game was composed by Joseph "Joe" McDermott. The game was developed on the Super NES, before it was ported to the Sega Genesis about halfway through. The ZAMN engine would later be used for Ghoul Patrol, Metal Warriors and Big Sky Trooper. The developer wanted to include a battery save in the game but was unable to as they could not afford it. The monsters in the game are based on classic horror films released in the 1950s and more modern films like Friday the 13th and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Weapon effectiveness is also based on these depictions; werewolves die in one hit if attacked with silverware and vampires die faster if attacked with the crucifix. In the SNES version of the game, there's a flamethrower which is not included in the Mega Drive version. The North American SNES game was later released with a variant cover art in limited quantities.

Pretty sure as a kid, the furthest I made it was Snakeoids. Usually at this point I messed around with the red potions too much that I could no longer turn into the monster.
