I first heard this song in 8th grade and I loved (and still love) it but I thought "No way that's gonna be me, I'm gonna do something with my life and be successful!" And I had reason to believe that because I was doing really well in school and all that. Now I'm 20 years old stuck in my mother's house with a useless music production degree and a car that barely gets me around. After doing a bit of research, I learned the song is named after Longview, Washington where there's really not much to do and people's traditional values keep them from from appreciating much creativity, and things like that. I come from an even smaller town (population of just under 6,000 where Longview is about 30,000) where the situation is pretty similar, so at the risk of being super fuckin cringey I'll say that I really relate to this song. All I can say is, even if you do what you're "supposed to" do, you can end up in a rut like this, but don't let it get to you, there's always someone looking out for you.
