You CAN pick up the tents, by placing your workbench inside, open & go to "DISMANTLE" it will give your tent & workbench back! ♥☺♥

Once you hit the snow, middle of the main island, it's up just a little there's a spot where a bunch of crates spawn, usually in those crates. May take a few tries but they'll be in there eventually. That's where I've found most of mine (: Hope that helps!

Middle of the main island, directly north. Once you hit the snow you'll find crate spawns in/by the buildings. That's where I've gotten most of mine(: Hope that helps!
