When I first heard the lyrics from the OVA, like any kid, I was like: "Wow! Cool song!". But then, a few years later, I searched for the lyrics and was a little disappointed for the lack of a meaning (I'm an Spanish speaker with bad hearing, along with many other defects...) Right now, I could scream from sheer joy for hearing this song, with a new voice and a new meaning. To say that I love this "remake" of the song is an understatement. I adore it ♥

@@lauralima862 I wouldn't say you're stupid, i agree with poor pescado that the original lyrics do kinda makes sense, it's describing things that *are alike* like sonic and metal sonic, it's just in engrish, because im gonna guess the writers for the song were japanese and didn't know much english so that's why some of it sounds rather nonsensical, so i wouldn't blame you for not understanding, but if you think and look closely, the og lyrics kinda make sense, this is a real good adaption and makes those engrish lyrics sound more english.

Actually, there is a meaning. The song is about how various things, like Sonic and Hyper Metal Sonic, are alike, yet different. Ice and water are different, yet similar.

The lyrics didnt need to be fixed, its called figuritive speech. So... for help of the original lyrics here is a little Translation of the meaning/context he song speaks about similarities between Sonic and Metal Sonic by giving comparations of various objects that, though can look like different (and sometimes superior) things, are really the same. It could be even a prelude to the dialogues of Metal Sonic in Sonic Heroes. "Ice and water": two states of the materials "Steak and cow": meat in two different forms "Autumn, this year and last year": The same station in two different years, with almost identical characteristics. "Spark and burn": A case of japanglish. "Burn" refers to the fire. A spark and fire can burn. "Rain and cloud": again, two states of the materials. "Tuesday, Wednesday, so is Friday": Three days in which usually a routine is followed. "How 'bout moons and headlights": Both can illuminate a dark night. "What I say and what I think": Usually our words reflect our thoughts. "A, B, C, D, E, F…": At the end, simple letter which alone don't have an specifical meaning. "A short while ago I was born, and I memorized by a lot of names": This is about Metal Sonic when he was created. It's a case of japanglish that tries to state that he was made with Sonic's strenghts but trying to overcome his weaknesses. "Everything is born from this planet: a number, a TV, even thoughts that entertain": With "this planet" it means something that was useful to develope the civilization as we know it. We needed numbers to start understanding our world; the TV was an invention that allowed to be in other places without actually being there, therefore allowing a better understanding of the world; and our thoughts led to ideas that made possible other inventions. "Everything came out of this planet: a boyfriend, a pencil, even your new videos": With this we have the opposite: things that we could want but aren't really needed. Babies can be born even if there isn't love between two persons; you don't need to write everything if you understand things correctly; and, well, we (maybe) could make it without Netflix or KZbin. Both of cases are alike in the way that both were created when people started to think, understand and manipulate their environment.

This is what the original song should've been. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Riu's vocals and the instrumentals of the original version, but this one definitely makes more sense lyrics-wise. Honestly in hindsight the lack of sense sorta works better for the perspective. The speaker is stated to have been “born” recently, so it’s more than likely to have been Metal. If you’ve played around with AI before, you’ll know a mechanical mind would make these exact sorts of absurd but technically correct connections when writing song lyrics.

My first experience of the Sonic OVA was the trailers that were included in the Movie Theatre section of Sonic Jam on the Saturn. This was the mid-90s and a decade before KZbin was founded - and even Amazon was still just a book mail-order service! - and we had no way to watch videos other than booting up the CD. I must have watched that trailer a thousand times, it was a rare window into a completely alien world I had no hope of accessing myself. This song played over the second half of the trailer - it was complete and total incomprehensible gibberish to me, but the line "I notice, I notice!" still sang out over images of Metal Sonic's sinister red eyes and made an indelible impression. Thanks for turning that memorable moment into a full song!
