That "belt" for the Beretta holster is actually a bandolier meant to be worn over the left shoulder, with the pouches holding Carcano rifle clips. Also, the tip of the C96 cleaning rod is for removal of the firing pin, not for use as a screwdriver.

You are right; this belt was worn over the left shoulder and belonged to Italian Carabinieri, a kind of Italian Gendarmery depending on the Italian Army, Esercito Italiano, from which the acronym EI stamped on the pistol, which has different duties: Military Police and Civil Police in case of serious unrest, Rural Police in Italy, Security at the Italian Embasses in the world and special tasks like antiti terrorism. Every Carabiniere was supplied until about 1970 with a Beretta 1934 9x17 mm pistol and a Carcano rifle Mod 1891/38 with an integrated folding bayonet called"Cavalry Model". During normal duties only the pistol was worn with a simple holster hooked to the trousers belt. During military service also the quoted rifle was carried on the right shoulder. In this case the special combination holster shown was used over the left shoulder with pouces for the rifle loaders and a ring to which the pistol holster was hooked. That is what is shown in the picture.

The reddish hue is due to the hardening of the steel and the reaction from the bluing-process on the surface of those areas/parts which need to be stronger during firing/action.

That is not 9. It is letter "F". This gun was issued to police. It reads "شهربانی" on the slide which means city police.

Walther Persian contract writing has a mark 'Police', as well as year. However the matching letter on the gun and magazine, although similar to 09 ( 9mm), is actually the letter 'F' or ف.

Beautiful collection! The Persian contract Farsi# 9917. The mark you are referring to is Farsi letter "F", do not know what it signifies, but it is not number 9. The Farsi 9 and our 9 look very similar, and we can see them on the first two digits of the serial#. On the slide of course there is the Persian crest one side "Shahrbani", similar to constabulary, and Model 1317. I need one for my collection!

Hi Tom, Had to stop you 20 seconds (whatever) in about the red 9. The Imperial eagle was stamped in that location (front of the magazine well) after the directive in June 1918 as a way of identifying Imperial property as by that time items were disappearing with 'departing" personnel. The application of the Imperial Eagle was performed by unit armourers (as per the red 9 as well) and obviously with the turmoil of war, a lot of weapons were missed . I am lucky enough to own 2 red nines with this Eagle stamped on the magazine well- Thanks for all the informative videos.

The stocks of military Mauser Red 9 Broomhandles do not have any markings like seen on DWM/Erfurt LP-08 rigs.

I had seen a video elsewhere showing, Depending on the bluing . . .to get a very black color. . .a dip in copper based fluid may occur between standard Bluing multiple dips and hot flame washes.. . . to get a light blue color, the copper dip is not used. . .

Hey Tom, I really enjoy your videos. Quick hint with regard to "Waffenproofed": The proofmarks on german WW2 guns should read WaA, followed by the respective identification number. This actually stands for "Waffenamt" (Wa - Waffen; A - Amt), translating to "Weapon's bureau". Please keep on producing those informative videos!

The 4UT is a German acceptance proof which means your pistols was made during the German occupation of the factory and issued to the German Army.

Probably just imports them from Canada, there are companies that specialize in bringing guns into the country on an individual or small number basis. I don't know how much longer he'll be able to though, the Canadian government recently banned the sale or transfer of handguns.
