Football coaches back then carried supporters to their away games. During the late 70s and 80s football hooliganism was a big think in England, causing trouble in places they stopped at on the way to the matches.

@@paulrichardson5438 I see, thank you very much for explaining! But it feels like that quote like "no football coaches" would not stop them and maybe agitate them even more, since they are already troublemakers...
