Great idea!!! The drywall application makes me wonder if they could be used as noise-cancelling from one room to another... maybe with a phone or Raspberry Pi with a microphone and algorithm to cancel sound from one room to another?

Thank you for showing this experiment for using exciters within drywall. With mounting multiple exciters per channel, and due to the fact that they vibrate close to each other, won’t there be inherent phasing issues between the exciters?

Great point. Yes there sure are potential phasing issues with multiple drivers radiating on the same surface so close together. I feared that could turn out poorly without testing. It was a risk I took and it paid off. I’m sure, with testing and measurement equipment I could position them better in relation to each-other in order to maximize their collective frequency response. Perhaps a little closer or further apart would have them more ‘in phase’ at the useable frequencies. I did none of that, and it all turned out OK. I do have more exciter in drywall projects expected. The jury is still out on wether I will just go for it again or test… Cause the El frequency response will change once the drywall is screwed down and mudded, testing various positions could prove difficult.

What ever happened to that follow up video where you were going to “surprise” your friends and get an honest reaction/opinion from them? Wonder if getting two mid/bass exciters and four regular exciters would have changed what they sound like…and of course a sub because…why not..lol.

I was wondering, Is it possible that if you have exciters mounted back-to-back, like you do, that you would need to wire one site with opposite polarity? My reason is that essentially you are trying to move the two walls in opposite directions, essentially canceling the sound because the exciters on opposite sides of the wall are canceling each other. My guess is that if you make the exciters work with each other, the whole wall will be able to flex and make a larger speaker with less cancelations. Can you try wiring one side of tbe wall with reverse polarity to test this? (The bathroom wall for example)

Just an afterthought and a warning ⚠️, the paint might develop cracks over time if there is a lot of energy. A good paint job with great adhesion should suffice.

Great question and YES, I have put thought to that and YES it does make a difference. The bathroom is wired out-of-phase for that reason. I use two different amps so that each room can be used independent and of each other. But when you run the two rooms together there is more energy and volume when they work in phase to eachother… which is technically out-of-phase for o e set… the bathroom. Because there is lots of bleed through when you use only one room, this is quite important. That is to say, when only the bathroom is in use, the dining room (wall) is vibrating quite a bit and making audible music too. So phase was critical to maximizing performance. PLUS because of the relative inefficiency of drywall due to the heavy weight and rigidity I don’t like to use any more volume input then necessary, so as to not blow a driver. Phase helps with keeping the volume input lower then is they were fighting eachother.

How did you choose which exciter to use?

Could you run a frequency response test when it is all patched up?
@consumertechcheck Жыл бұрын
I think I will do that… That could be an eye opener. At least it could allow me to set the subwoofer settings better. I suspect the graph would be pretty tragic as compared to the sound experience… I think it likely sounds better then the graph will suggest… let’s find out…

Why not show the real front sound inside the bathroom? 🤣

What're you gonna do? Make the world's creepiest PA system? Just occasionally say "get your finger out of there"when guests are over and see what happens.

That’s fantastic..! It really is a mysterious thing to hear. The natural response is to ask yourself ‘where is that coming from’. It’s quite bewildering how good it sounds considering it is all hidden.
