I have a 2021 Rav4 XLE and use lane assist on cross country trips. It does help but what we really need is clearly marked lanes. I just hope the new "infrastructure" bill that just passed, will include clearly marked lanes on all highways, throughout the country, since all new cars need them, for lane assist to work safely.
@chewie941163 жыл бұрын
I love this new function. It is incredible. I have tried this many times on my RAV4 PRIME and it works. If the lines on the lanes are NOT visible then it will not work. I love it. This is very similar to how the Tesla autopilot works (which requires that you touch the wheel every 5 seconds in case you need to correct). I can't wait for semi-autopilot which is already coming out in the Lexus. ONLY a matter of time before it comes. This function makes long drives a lot easier and manageable. You might not agree or see it until you try, but I love it.

Mine has pulled me into the center of a two lane highway (two lanes being one in each direction) a few times while testing it out (just got it a few days ago). Luckily I was just hovering my hands over the wheel, but had I not, I swear it was trying to pull us into that lane. No idea why. It was trying to cross over solid yellow lines, but it was dusk, maybe that made the difference? Not sure. But it also only happened as cars passed from the other direction which was really quite freaky. Will definitely only use it in emergency cases from now on! *I should also add that when I first got the car, I got so used to it being amazing that I got carried away showing Android Auto to a family member and only realized I wasn't paying attention to the road when it beeped at me. It is fantastic other than that one quirk, but don't trust it with your life!

To bypass time restriction, buy a medium size bottle of POM juice, drink it and fill the bottle with water. Set up LTS and then the desired speed with dynamic cruise. Once the fuzzy bars appear on both sides of the road icon, take hands off the wheel. Follow rules in Toyota manual for LTA. Be sure lane markings are present and not covered. Watch on and off ramps. To bypass restrictions of LTA and Dynamic Cruise Control First buy a medium sized POM juice at super market. Drink the juice and replace it with water. Place the POM bottle at the 2 O’Clock position inside the steering wheel. It can be secured with a long rubber band or hair band. Turn on LTA. While driving on an interstate highway, turn on adaptive cruise control and set the desired speed. While on a straight portion of the road the dashboard icons will show that the lanes have been captured. Take your hands off of the wheel but be sure the bottle is in place. Learn the rules for safely using the auto pilot. Lanes Must be visible. There Must be lane markings so watch on and off ramps, tar, snow rain. Do not use in traffic, or in construction sites. Be careful when passing traffic. You may need to react to lane changers. Be watchful of lanes ALWAYS being captured. I use this method on my 2021 Rav4 and have gone 4-500 miles with it.

How sensitive is the wheel to sensing your hand on it? And do you need to put your hands on specific parts of the wheel with certain amount of pressure for it to recognize? I currently have a Kia K5 and the lane centering is great but my only complaint is that the wheel isn’t sensitive enough to recognize I have my hand on the wheel in the 6 o’clock position, so I often have to jerk the wheel slightly to let the car know I’m still there.

Hav a 22’ Prius prime with this feature. First, it does feel like it is not centering but I think that is because all these years I have not been centering the vehicle so good for you Toyota. Second, you really need to watch it when you are passing an off-ramp as it something’s wants to follow the outside lane and take you right off the freeway - yikes….better to stay in the middle lane as no Prius should ever be in the fast lane Last, cause the car is making adjustments all the time it does feel like it is ping-ponging down the road but to someone without a hand on the wheel it feels pretty darn smooth - while I do use radar cruise in the city (45 zones) i turn off the lane keep and only use it on the freeway so you are not fighting it - nice feature that really takes some fatigue off the driver if you use it at the right time and place

Also, is the adaptive cruise control radar sensor ever affected by weather like fog or direct sunlight when the sun is low on the horizon?

It seems Toyota has different Lane assist features on different vehicles of the same year, even. I had a 22 sienna and my Lane assist worked just like this video demonstrates. But I just bought a 22 Prius ECO l and the lane assist essentially does not work. Any sort of slight curve in the road and the vehicle breaks through the line to the outside, jerks back slightly but then continues off the road. If the road is perfectly straight, the car will weave back and forth from touching one line to touching the other like I'm drunk. I have a Subaru outback, a 23 and it works exactly like my Toyota sienna which is very well. I wonder why the Prius does not have the same software even though it's the same model year.

@jtshaneyfelt5894 Жыл бұрын
I appreciate your vids, Jeff. They ultimately helped me compare brands and decide to buy a '23 RAV4 XSE Hybrid a couple months ago. No regrets, but I'm mildly frustrated with what I believe are SS 2.5 limitations. First, I really like the LTA capability; it actually steers and handles curves more smoothly than my wife's F-150 w/BlueCruise. But, when engaged, it alarms incessantly, with loud "beep-beeps" that render it way too distracting to keep enabled. I can't find a control that allows me to disable or even reduce the frequency/volume of the audible beeps. Secondly, the RSA seems to work great; but without any option for using it to autoset the speed control, it's not particularly useful. Obviously, neither of these is a show-stopper, but it would be helpful to know if you are aware of any workarounds.
@christopherturcios559 Жыл бұрын
Well while it would be nice, I’m pretty sure the whole point of it is to aid you in case of a distraction or for a sleepy driver so it beeps to get your attention. I doubt they would allow you to turn it off as it would become a safety hazard

When I drive, and pass a 18 wheeler, I ride the opposite line. I feel it gives me more reaction time when they come over in my lane. First time I drove mine it pulled me toward the 18 wheeler. Nothing wrong with it, just scared me. But I hope if the rig is coming into my lane (cmon you all know how they do) the DA will not pull me towards them. I hope at least.

It can be difficult to keep an 18 wheeler in a straight line, especially when it’s windy. The trailer has a very large surface area and when the wind is gusting at 25 mph+ it can throw your trailer around. It’s usually just small deviations from the lane that are quickly corrected, but it can definitely be scary for drivers next to the trailer, especially on those those narrow roads/curves.

Thanks for the video Jeff, one thing I realized about your dealership is that you remove the window sticker and then laminate it ! LOL
