None of this discussion seems supported with fact. Baiting is incredibly difficult. Also, it's not a pay-to-play thing, you can go out and do it yourself in many states with over-the-counter tags. It's far more difficult than deer. Takes months of prep and research and scouting, weeks of bait site maintenance, multiple (think 20+) grueling multi-mile hikes (think 6-10+) with 75+lbs of bait going in, meat and hide going out if lucky (often in dangerous conditions and on steep terrain), not to mention many day-long sits at a bait site. And, the bears are certainly not ok with humans being there. It takes camo, knowledge of the wind, concealment in brush, and good luck not to get busted. And, getting busted's the best case scenario. Deer won't ever come up from behind and take a curious nibble with 3+ inch teeth genetically perfected for punting and tearing meat because you smell good from downwind. Now imagine all of the above solo... No one around. No one watching what bear/cougar/wolf is coming up behind you. No one within earshot of a scream. No one within miles. No one to help with the hundred of pounds of bait back and fourth to the bait site. No one to help with the hundreds of pounds of meat back to the truck. No one to help if you fall and twist an ankle or are attacked by a black or grizzly bear or mountain lion or pack of wolves or fall off a cliff or are struck by lightning or stuck out in the woods freezing or trying to escape a wild fire and/or starving and/or lost. My experience is it isn't easy at all. But hey, I'm sure others far more experienced than I have already done all of this and determined it to be "lazy" or "bullshit."

Hunting is legal and for a certain kind, I get it, but I'm glad I'm the type of human being who felt pain for the animal. I felt horrible seeing it get shot, the way it flipped over and tried to get away. It looked shocked and freaked out.... and took a bullet. I would have felt okay if the bear attacked. I'm no hunter but I've watched enough videos to know that was reckless. You typically want to have a sidearm ready to go after you take that shot with the rifle. I thought the bear was charging at him and if he was..he would have been mauled for sure because he didn't even know the bear was charging at him and why didn't he know is because he was reloading his gun. Hints that's why you pull your firearm after that shot with the rifle or follow-up shots. I heard from the professionals it's much faster to pull your firearm then to reload your rifle. That bear was too close and if it chose to attack it would have got that man before he got that shot off the barrel's already on the side of him when he did the second reckless shot now imagine if it was going for him. Hand guns in Canada are restricted, you can own one, but it requires a special license. With that license you are only permitted to fire it at a certified range, and must notify the police when, where, and time frame when the gun will be in transport. It is highly illegal to use them for hunting, and will get you a very lengthy prison time, and hefty fine. The only way to legally carry a hand gun is if you are a certified trapper, live in a remote area, show that other legal firearms cannot be used because of certain conditions, and are self employed. From what I've heard it is it extremely difficult to obtain, and gets rejected almost always.

The bear wasn’t guilty or innocent, he was a wild legal game animal, manages species by Fish and Game. The hunter bought a legal hunting license, bear tag, plane ticket, hired a guide and worked his job to pay for all of it, plus paid income and relevant sales taxes. This hunter also worked for his food, not asking for handouts. He likely prefers hunting for his own food, like me, and probably loves fresh organic bear meat, over processed, hormone injected grocery store meat, which people like you buy. You’d also rather pay someone else to kill it for you, cuz you are above that task in life. Why is there a trash can in the middle of the woods? After reading some of the comments I understand the trash can is full of food to bait the bears. You should have not fired, the bear moved into your direction, therefore it was not possible to kill the bear with the First shot. The bear was wounded. I am a hunter as well, however I cant accept this... :(

At close ranges poor ammo selection could be to blame. Not many choices out there for dumping all their energy and dropping game within 50 meters much less that damn close. I don't know how Canada works but in the US, us hunters are the number one contributors to conservation. When you're in the middle of nowhere miles from civilization, stalking is not an option. I've been on hunts with this outfitter and I know the area. You could walk for 8 days through the mountains and not even see a squirrel let alone a big black like that. To make it even harder I used a bow. You'd NEVER get that close without a bait barrel

The commenters are stupid as fk. For one those bears eventually would've sniffed the guys out. They waited as long as they could but at some point those bears are going to walk right up to dudes and then what? You gonna drop that bear in one shot? Not a chance you gotta shoot it with atleast enough distance to take a second shot if you have too. I think they shot the biggest of the three because it was the biggest threat to there position and it was the only one heading there direction and it was probably the momma bear. Once that momma bear would've got anywhere near those hunters it would've been no stopping her. She would've killed and eaten anything near those cubs friendly or not. I heard someone once say that a grizzly bears will eat you if there's nothing around but black bears like eating humans for some reason. The first shot? Meh could've been better. Could've been worse. Second shot? I think it missed completely but I didnt' listen to the audio. Next time you commenters want to go out to the forest he is and pet the bears go ahead. I see a black bear and blowing it's fking head off if I have to.
