god this is so good??? ive been out of my homestuck phase for a hot second but this grabbed me by the neck, the amount of emotion you captured in this is incredible. it brings back such a wave of nostalgia and an emotion i cant really describe. i've been working through my own gender recently and that last shot just perfectly captures how much growing up and facing depression and gender struggles can change you and your old relationships, and suddenly your younger self is a complete stranger to you and you're scared the people who knew you as that old self will still only see you as that and might not like the new you. the ending perfectly captures the deep pain that kind of dissonance causes and wowie i did not mean to write an essay but holy shit your art is good and now i wanna draw homestuck again

The amount of emotion this simple minute or so video, with about 20 beautifully drawn images, elicits in me is doggone criminal. The sheer pain of the opening, where it seems like post-game john is talking to pre-game john and explaining *everything*, all the fucked up shit that happened because he wanted to be with his friends and feel, and then at the end he turns forward, to go into the future, but the future he sees is bleak. One he doesn't know how to handle, one he doesn't *want* to handle, he's finished playing sburb and now he's just going to stay inside. He ponders on the fact that the only thing he can think of that'd cause him to feel would be waking up to his house on fire, and then. His friends, his best friends the people he played that game to be with the people most important to him in life *reach out*, start activly including him in their lives, calling him up and joking and getting him out of the house, and it helps! It really fucking helps and he starts to feel better, not as depressed, he's smiling, having the time of his life, hanging out with friends, and then, some day, one of them says something, and it finally hits. Oh shit. Maybe i'm a girl. She can't joke about this, this, this is amazing and it hurts and what will everyone think and *why does it have to be this way* and *holy fuck i can't do this* and she clams up. Starts going out as much, and when she does she looks noticably less kempt, isn't smiling as much, and it hurts. It hurts in a lot of good ways, yes, but it hurts in bad ways too and eventually she gets to a point where she just flat out doesn't go anywhere anymore, "Well well, look who's inside again, went out to look for a reason to hide again," staying home in baggy but familiar clothes and then eventually someone gets so worried they call her friends, and they come over and- well, it's a confrontation, isn't it. It always is, in those situations, even when it's not intended. "Well well, buddy you found it, now come out with your hands up we've got you surrounded". They're worried, they're all worried, but she won't *say anything*, just making excuses to hide away and not deal with her problems and feel worse about herself in a spiral and and and. Well, i'd imagine it'd be dave, with his usual lack of tact, or Rose with a softer hand but still unable to not push, who eventually ask if she's growing her hair out, 'you almost look girlish now bro', 'it looks nice on you, but are you sure you're okay', and she breaks. She's June, now, she picked the name 3 years ago and hasn't said it to anyone ever until now and she's sobbing and everyone's crowding her to be supportive and *it's okay, hon, your friends will stand by you no matter what*, you don't have to worry about them rejecting you, you never did, they love you, and- "The hair really does look nice, June, it suits you", "Yeah bro- shit no not bro fuck", "It's nice to finally get to meet my sister!" I've cried watching this, multiple times. I've cried writing this, multiple times. Thank you so much for putting this out into the world, it means, well, the world to me.

Huh... I guess John did end up back where he started. Stuck at home. Always returning back to that home to feel trapped again. First, stuck in his house, then stuck in the narrative, then stuck in the house juju, then stuck by his own depression back in his dads house for years. Then again after failing to live up to preordained destiny. He escaped several times, but he can't seem to stay free, despite all the powers permitting his freedom. He's the only one keeping him stuck. Maybe the preconceptions he holds, or the things he keeps himself beholden to, such as his identity? I wonder what could actually help him maintain freedom.
