Looking Ahead at Upcoming Texas Weather

After several wet days, we'll start turning off the water faucets across most of Texas as we head toward the end of the work week. On Thursday and Friday, rain chances will continue along the Texas Gulf Coast, South Texas, Southeast Texas, and Golden Triangle. Lower rain chances are possible farther inland. Heavy rain may continue to produce localized flooding, especially on the Upper Texas Gulf Coast.
Showers and a few storms will continue further inland in Texas this morning before we dry out this afternoon along and west of Interstate 35. Some folks have received over ten inches of rain since last week (or two days ago), while others didn't get a drop. We'll work on a rainfall map this afternoon.
With the conclusion of widespread rain chances, excluding near the Texas Gulf Coast, we'll begin a slow warming trend across the state. I'm happy to report that the heat dome won't return for a while. That'll keep our daytime temperatures more manageable, with 80s to lower 90s. It doesn't look like widespread upper 90s or 100s are in the seven-day forecast.
Next week, we'll need to watch the southwestern Gulf of Mexico for a low chance of tropical mischief. A system currently located over the Caribbean may find slightly more favorable conditions to develop the next week. It has a low chance of development for now, but it could get pulled north next week if it were to develop. We'll keep an eye on it, just in case. It's just one "low probability" scenario we'll monitor for now. Have a marvelous #HumpDay!

The golden triangle is in southeast Texas - the area of Beaumont, Port Arthur, and Orange. The Concho Valley is in west Texas along the Concho River (San Angelo and surrounding areas).

So I made a mental note at the beginning of this year's hurricane season, with all the usual Climate Change hype for the worst Hurricane Season ever. The breathless predictions - I believe the number was 17-25 named storms, per NOAA. And where are we now - 3 hurricanes and 2 tropical storms. I remember during Hurricane Beryl in July - NBC had boots on the ground and the only interview that made the national news was some local yokel stating that it was the worst storm he had ever seen, ginning up the narrative that Climate Change yadda yadda. Obviously this guy doesn't remember when there was a real hurricane just a few years ago, that did real damage and not just some roads flooding down by the waterfront. The models are obviously flawed, and this year is just a case in point. It's time to throw them out and start over. How many of the recent years have been forecasted to be 'the worst in 100 years', only to have them amount to just a few occasional Cat 1/Cat 2 hurricanes. Katrina was 19 years ago, and even then we were told that this was going to become the norm due to Global Warming (oops, Climate Change). As you might tell, the doom-and-gloomers are wearing thin with me and I, for one, am not going to set future plans based on their Chicken Little pronouncements.
