We have the same mixer. First year of running one. I really like it. I agree with pre grinding your hay. It just takes way too long to wait on a bale to grind and you may need to add more or less hay and it’s a pain.

we just serviced 1 of 2 penta vertical mixers at work. other than flat tires here & there 1st every issue both 13 yrs old the planetary gearbox came loose from the tank was about to fall off the machine. they're bolted up on to the tank with 1/2" coarse thread grade 5 bolts & all the nuts were either loose or totally gone so we put in grade 8. have to remove screw from mixer to access bolts they install from inside. vertical mixers super important to do scheduled oil change on the planetary gear boxes

There are a ton of vertical mixer getting used in feed lots now and they pretty much all use ground hay. I talked to a guy and he said when they bought them it was to save grinding hay but if they grind it 2 trucks can feed 30,000 head a day with them.

When buying a twin vertical mixer there are ones that overlap giving you a true forward to rear mixing action so the load has even mixture on smaller amounts of materials. you may dump in middle, back, or front and material will thoughly be mixed front to back in a short period of time.

Thanks for the info. I’ve been looking and trying to figure out what direction I should go on a mixer.

We use a lot of high moisture round bales in our vertical Penta mixer. Takes lots of fuel and mixer knife maintenance, I would like to use custom hay grinder but that costs also.

I have a Meyer F585 and it’s been a good mixer since I bought it new in 2016. The belt discharge is so much better than a chain in my opinion. My only complaint is if you are processing large quantities of long stem hay especially course stuff like hay grazer, the mixing time gets pretty long. Jaylor verticals are the best if that is your plan.

Nice mixer Will. We have been looking into one ,but cant afford it right now.Good to see you again been awhile my friend.
@sowerscattleco34845 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think they want 45 for one like this. Alot of money unless it's running every day of the year
@ryckmanangusranch43495 жыл бұрын
I agree it would be nice to have your hay or whatever ground first though.

@@sowerscattleco3484 Yeah they don't give them away, hard for a smaller operation to justify, but you can sure gain on the feed rations, gotta really pencil out all the angles and options and nutritional advantages

Hey where you pump your water in molasses into you mixing wagon at the beginning of the video, you should take a PVC pipe and t that off so it is pouring the length of the mixer wagon and gets mixed thoroughly

Watching from northern New York and love your videos! Was wondering What software or program you use to balance your rations for your cattle.

Demo a schuler twin screw. We have used twin vertical screws for 20 years and something isnt right with that one, the feed isnt moving like it should, should be moving around as well as up and down and in the video seemed like feed was just going up and down and not rotating. I have a schuler ms 750 and its even mositure and ready to go when i turn the water off no matter where water is being poured in. Also right hand delivery

I think mixer center is a dealer for them. I may have to try one before this fall
@texasgrazer98545 жыл бұрын
@@sowerscattleco3484 yes mixercenter is a dealer, we talked to them when buying our last one. Iam thinking kicker plates arent moving the feed in that meyer like it should be. I feed balage and can have a 15k pound load of tmr ready in 30 to 40 mins from first scoop.

have a silly question.... with a vertical mixer .... would a hay processor process the hay enough so the mixer would handle the rest in a reasonable amount of time? OR would actually grinding be. best?
@sowerscattleco34845 жыл бұрын
Not sure, dont have a hay processor to find that out.
@pauls81065 жыл бұрын
Processing the hay with the baler makes a big difference, still takes some time to chew it up through.

I personally didn’t like the one I had cause it took forever to mix an I thought it mixed uneven. I am spoiled cause we have had Roto Mixes since they started. Good luck though
