On this week's show, we take a look at another one of Stirlingkit's steam engine kits. This one however, comes complete with a generator and street light.
If you are interested in the kit I assemble on today's show, you can find it here.

What an awesome show today. Nothing like watching a steam engine kit run after construction. Thanks again Kenny for a great tutorial. 👍🏻🇦🇺

This is a phenomenal item. I really really like the entire concept. I seriously gave consideration to getting one for each of my grandsons but then realized that neither really seem to have any interest in mechanics or the evolution of engine power. But I love these kits. Maybe I know an old guy (me) who might be interested in getting one. 🙂 A great show and a marvelous demo of the generator component. Thanks for the work on today's episode. PS: how about giving us a blast on the new and improved steam whistle. . . . . . .WoooooooWooooooooooooooooo!!

You are not the first to ask about the whistle that I neglected to add to the show. I guess it will have to inserted into an upcoming update show to give folks a taste of what it sounds like. Thanks for tuning in this week and for the kind words on the show.

They really are a cool invention and the ability to see them work, close up on a smaller scale is awesome. Thanks for tuning in Michael.

Nearing retirement in 2020, I bought a mini metal lathe and mini milling machine to start doing hobby machine shop projects. I discovered a company called PM Research out of Wellsville, NY that sells an impressive array of stationary steam engine and shop machinery kits (1/12 scale), but these “kits” are a whole different level of “kit”. Consisting of unmachined bronze and aluminum castings as well as steel, brass and aluminum stock, and extensive blueprints to guide you in the machining. And it all operates just like the prototypes! I just finished a camelback drill press kit of theirs, it being the 3rd PMR kit I’ve built, and the enjoyment level is over the top! I’ve done woodworking for many years, but find myself doing less of it and more machining (or engineering as the Brits say) in recent years. While generating chips of “swarf”, there’s no dust like woodworking, and I’m finding that aspect really appealing! The swarf is restricted to the immediate vicinity as opposed to the irksome sawdust that seems to distribute itself into every corner of the room and flat surface!

That sounds amazing Tom. I'd love to see some of these creations. Do you have any pictures or a link to the information? Thanks for tuning in to the show and for chiming in with your comments.

@ Google PM Research. Prepare to be amazed! Some of their kits are available as machined, ready to assemble kits, others available only as unmachined kits. I’ve always gotten the unmachined versions because I enjoy the process so much! As info, I just started into this hobby a few years ago, and I’ve been able to complete each kit successfully! Each one turns out better than the last! My most recent kit was machined on a Sherline (brand name, built in the states, and small in footprint) lathe & mill.

I had one of these when I was younger. Really cool. Only thing is, it wound up being covered with soot whenever we used it.
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings Ай бұрын
These are no different Chuck. If you look closely at the video, the boiler has soot all over the sides of it where the flames lick up the sides of the brass. The original steam engine that I showcased a while back did the same thing. It's just the nature of brass and flames. It's unavoidable. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in with your comment.

That’s pretty cool! Have you ever heard of a Sterling engine? They work by temperature differential on each side of a piston. Technically they are an external combustion engine. Check them out I think you would enjoy. Thanks for the steam engine video!

There is a whistle Dennis. You're not the only one to ask about it so I guess I should have filmed it. Sorry about that. thanks for tuning in though.

Interesting Kenny, I did enjoy watching you assemble this machine and see it working. I wonder how many watts it puts out? might be able to charge the power pack you have, slowly. interesting thought.
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings Ай бұрын
The boiler doesn't have enough water in it to run long enough to charge anything William but that is definitely a very interesting thought. I've never considered something like that. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in to the conversation.

As someone who builds scale models and also collects things, I hear ya on the display issue Scott. But in my experience, if it's something that you really want to display, you will always find the space. LOL. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

What is the electrical output? Been looking for a Stirling engine with a generator to charge 2 cell phones. I reckon I need 12 volts, 12 watts minimum. Can't find a Stirling that can do this and am too lazy to make one.
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings Ай бұрын
I'm not 100% sure of the output on this but I'm pretty confident in saying that it won't charge your cell phones. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
