I’ll list the BO2 Cut sidemodes below, given that they now have gameplay mechanic ideas of how they played out, but according to Jason Blundell, he explained in a ZomBros Podcast that these gamemodes were cut due to the Zombies team and Jimmy Zielinski running out of time. Cleansed - Outlast the other players on your team. Dead players become Zombies. The game ends when only one player is left standing. Containment - Stay alive for as long as you can and prevent Zombies from escaping. The game ends when one team survives. Played on the subsection map Nacht der Untoten. Dead Pool - Reach the end before your teammates. Strings imply that Meat was usable in this mode. Meat - Grab the meat and throw it. Zombies will only attack you if your team's side has the meat. No Man's Land - Survive endless waves of multiple enemy types. The game ends when all players die. (Similar to Moon's No Man's Land Concept) Pitted - Survive endless waves of multiple enemy types. The game ends when one team survives. Race - Kill the necessary amount of Zombies to open your door and reach the end. The first team to survive or reach the end wins. Strings imply that Meat would also be usable in this mode. Returned - This was reworked to became Turned (DLC 1)

I think side modes, while not needed, can help add a bit of variety to zombies games. Even if I normally don’t play then that often it’s useful to have as sometimes you’re in the mood for zombies but want something other than the standard round based stuff.

I agree, I’d rather that they’d be there even if I rarely play them than not having them exist at all

Grief and Onslaught (Containment) have been my favorite side modes throughout the series I would love to see Grief return, as that Jimmy Zielinski patented F*ck With Your Friends™ type gameplay is practically non-existent now, EMPing Juggernog, Diving on a Prone Player, or Throwing Grenades at PaP, the lack of these moments alongside an extremely linear Points System and upgrade path really take away some of that old Zombies Magic. Unfortunately, Grief has been "hidden" in the files of every Treyarch game since it's debut, so I think the leaks are another case of this. Meanwhile Onslaught provided a unique experience, turning every Multiplayer map into a Zombies map was a crazy feeling, and it's simplicity, you didn't have to worry about turning on PaP, getting the Wonder Weapon, or min-maxing your points, you could just hop in and play zombies. For the Record, I love maps that give you these grand quests too, but sometimes after a long day of work, you just want to jump right into a game. Very disappointing that it didn't return in BO6

For awhile back a year ago there was a decent community on cell block every weekend, always the same people. One chick was in the top 100 in the world for game won which was crazy.

I genuinely enjoyed Outbreak. It's a nice slow break from zombies. Round based is fun but every once in a while I like taking the game slow and not worrying about getting bombarded

Forgot about Cranked, that mode was a lot of fun! Agree on the Rampage Inducer as it’s criminal that was never introduced. Would’ve helped a lot with unnecessary deaths when there just wasn’t enough zombies to kill in multiplayer

I don't think rush is meant to be played solo, it's only there if you really want to. And in my opinion the review suffers because it is not focused on this multiplayer aspect. But I do agree, once you played once you've seen it all, the replayability of the mode comes from playing with friends. I also think this gamemode would greatly benefit with the "trolling" mechanics from grief. Still, I feel like the mode pairs quite nicely with the rest of the game, as it shines when you fail on the others. For example, you go for a run of gauntlet or an EE, and fail near the end, you won't feel like doing it all over again, but you still want to play a little bit longer, you just hop on rush with your team and see who wins. Which is exactly what happened to me and a friend 2 days ago, and it felt refreshing. Great video!

Yeah, I know, and I wish I could have gotten some online footage of it but trying to convince my friends to play rush with me was like pulling teeth 😭. I couldn’t find public matches of it either and I wanted to get the video out by this past Friday, so I just decided to just bite the bullet and get footage of it in solo.

I need that video of nightmare mode why has no one else done this yet

I’m super curious about it myself, I’ve tried it out but never got past the first mission - and that was years ago, I think during 2020 right after quarantine started. And if I’m not mistaken, I’m pretty sure that nightmares is supposed to be more of a campaign tie-in than being set in the zombies universe, which probably contributes to how little attention it gets from the zombies community

BO2’s grief, IW’s boss fight only mode, and BO4’s Gauntlet stand at to me as the best of the best in terms of side modes. Hard to fathom why none of them have returned in the franchise. Hopefully those rumors are true as they would be a WELCOME addition in BO6, or any further iterations of the zombies mode for that matter
