The Armada show had one of my favorite incarnations of Starscream. I loved how we got a such a different take on the typical Starscream vs Megatron dynamic. A lot of the other characters in the show were pretty fun too.

Energon ruined it, but it still has tons of potential to me, like the autobot-decepticon alliance, the maximum combiners, Scorponok, Inferno, Alpha Quintesson's redemption, and maybe showing on how Hotshot grew to be a leader, even Demolisher.

Everything you mention about Armada toyline-wise is how I felt about RID (with the exception of the minicon related things, or course). Back to Transforming car robots (which is literally what they went for with the Japanese name). I remember wandering into a store and doing a double take when I saw the toys. Optimus and Magnus were what I went home with that day, the first toys I ever bought since becoming an adult. As for the cartoon.... To this day, I have a love/hate relationship with Armada. They could have done so much more with Armada's first half if they gave the mincons full personalities and voices. Instead we got R2D2 "gotta catch em all" pokeformers. But then..... damn, the second half or so of Armada is amazing! So many good, interesting things going on with the characters. It may as well be a different show. And now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to play with my Meg-Tyranno from Fanshobby.

I still love the Armada design of Optimus. The soot-covered grill was a great touch, and with the extra wide wheels it really looked like a tough truck. Mini-cons were great too, it was like an improvement on the Micro Master idea, which I already liked. The mini-con port concept was really clever too, it was essentially a hidden button in the form of a peg hole, and any mini-con was the key to hidden gimmicks. The mystery and surprise of that play feature was always fun. There's a great and underappreciated Transformers Armada game on the PS2 also. Some really fun powers you can get from collecting mini-cons.

"It was familiar, but new." Ah yes, that thing Hasbro refuses to do nowadays. It must be G1, G1, and only G1 (and Beast Wars, since that's part of G1). I really want something like Armada or Animated again, something that redesigns the cast in a new way and gives us NEW interpretations of them.

Armada was the first Transformers series I really got into, and probably the first Transformers series ever aired in my country. I remember buying Armada Megatron when out of town with my aunt, her asking my mother if it was okay via cellphone. I loved the toy and played with it all the time, and then a brand new cartoon series aired during saturday. The animation was brisk and beautiful, the story had an air of mystery, and then all of a sudden, my newest favorite toy popped in on the screen. It was a magical moment. Now that I have seen all the transformers series there is, I gotta give credit to the toy line for the first successful Unicron toy.

To be fair Armada had a lot to live up to considering it was the first return to the traditional Transformers concept after G1. All things considered I would say the series and toyline as a whole managed to return to the concept quite well while also giving its own unique spin on franchise characters and lore.

Armada was my first introduction to Transformers when I was 7. My first TF toy was McDonalds Armada Hot Shot. I'd never heard of Transformers before. But the concept immediately clicked with me. When I moved into a new house and changed schools, I found a few friends that had been collecting the toys and watching the show. My next door neighbor had a few toys and one of my school friends had almost all of them up until that point. Started watching the anime on Cartoon Network and the rest is history. The Anime despite the several errors it has is among my favourite Transformers shows. My opinion might be biased but I will always cherish Armada. The voice cast from Ocean Studios in Canada is something else i love about the series, as i spent time imitating and trying to perfect the voices of the Autobots and Dacepticons. Especially Optimus Prime and Megatron. Gary Chalk and David Kaye are tied with Peter Cullen and Frank Welker as the best voices of Optimus Prime and Megatron. Also Armada has one of the best Themes in Transformers, i like it so much i listen to over and over on the odd occaision.

Transformers Armada was and imo still is One of the Best series of Transformers in all time. My very first one was Beast Wars, if I'm correct, but I was very, very young to get a grasp of any of it's story( watched it years later tho and it's amazing!). I never had an opportunity to get deluxes but a few months later I could buy some smaller figures in the most expensive store in town, that not many people knew about( funny enough nobody bought RID smaller transformers like me because they've thought it’s just expensive small toy cars, but when I saw the Autobot Logo all was clear,). They had Minicons from Sea Team and Street Speed Team, and to this day I find most of Minicons way better than what new small Micromaster( I’ve got Autobot rescue team. miraculously on sale like 3 years from release. I guess it was a similar case as with Armada, because not so long after there was Energon) from theWar for Cybertron Siege. Idea was there but execution in weapon form… wasn't very good(I would still forgive looks if it at least held properly together). Anyway It was the show I always could watch after going back from school, well most of time, then they messed up order of showing episodes, so you like got Unicorn Battles from the ass, but overall I always loved it and back in a day I didn't knew what Anime was but that aesthetic it’s Timeless and still very likely for me It was like - “ooh this cartoon had this specific look it would 100% mean it would be smth interesting”. Also maybe it was an accident. Maybe a genius marketing idea, but this small Minicons hella reminded me about Pokemon, which were gigantic back in the day, and maybe Digimon too so that would explain it’s undenying popularity. I didn’t have the opportunity to rewatch the series and judge it by myself today, but opening is smth they can't mess up from my nostalgia . Maybe if I can afford to buy those episodes somewhere, cause it’s way too hard to find them on the internet ( or any Unciron trilogy, at least every time I have looked for them they didn't have my native language, maybe in English but Subtitles are needed for me)... I could talk about this very long, But I'm glad I was there when the series had its peaks, and hopefully I could rewatch it someday.

As a young boy, I never dove into the toyline, but I do remember watching reruns of the anime late at night (I think it was Toonami). I didn't really care for the story at the time, but I enjoyed visually and it was oddly comforting, lulling me to sleep. Since then, I really like Armada for its aesthetic and designs. My uncle had the Universe 2.0 Hotshot, which I really wanted, but it was so hard to transform. Missed out on that, along with the original figures, but I managed to get the 30s deluxe Armada Starscream and the Mini-con Assault team to combine with him. Now I'm really hoping for new figures based on Armada (especially the unique ones such as Demolishor and Sideways) to come out in Legacy as I feel like I missed out on something back then. I would be so happy with a Starscream that is like the 30s but bigger and the Hotshot like the Uni one but less complex. And many other such as Mini-cons in core class.

Pros- +Bringing Unicron back and actually producing a big toy. +Some killer designs (Megatron's H-tank with antlers) +Some surprisingly good episodes with surprisingly good animation +A Transformers game worth playing?! +Minicons forced the Micromaster angle into something that sort of makes sense in a story context. +Playability- probably the sturdiest TF toys ever made +When the gimmicks were good they were great (Megatron's hidden knife is a delight and used to great effect in the anime) +Dreamwave's slaves doing the toy box art +The Dreamwave Armada comics when Simon Furman came back were a dream come true. Cons- -Bringing back Unicron and making him the continuous presence he's been ever since. Also while the toy was mostly good for the time, dear GOD that really is just half a planet and then the kibble, jeeeez that kibble -Some unbelievably bad designs (Sideswipe DEAR GOD). -Great day in the morning the show is unbearable. Some episodes have animation nearing G1 s3 AKOM levels of bad. Speaking of G1, an unwelcome return to the world of ANIMATION ERRORS. There's flashes of brilliance and episodes with good budgets but less than a quarter of the 50+ episodes are even worth watching. -Minicons made for some of the best figures in the line, but their gimmickry also usually sucked. The obvious attempt to Pokemon-ize Transformers grated on my nerves back in the day. -Playability- there were G1 figures that were better articulated. Megatron- your big ticket item- can't move his legs forward. Some couldn't move their arms. And this was coming on the heels of the ball-joint revolution where characters from Beast Wars-on were so well articulated they had better range of movement than your average humanoid action figure. -When the gimmicks are bad they literally ruin the toy (looking once again at Sideswipe) -Hope you like anime because Transformers is now anime until the movie hits. -Dreamwave's Armada comics were just abysmally written until Simon Furman swept in to save the day. Then due to Pat Lee's malfeasance, Dreamwave folded in the middle of giving us the best Transformers comics since the Marvel years. T H A N K S.

I remember reading the announcement for Armada when it first showed up on the Transformers website. Just descriptions of the toys, no pictures. The concept of a self-transforming trailer blew my mind. But I remember the way they described Red Alert and Longarm it sounded like they integrated better in their alt modes to turn him from a rescue truck into a toy truck. Course, when the toys showed up, as someone who had a taste of G1 before the Beast Era appeared, and after the Beast Era's quantum leap in articulation, the fact that a lot of Armada figures were bricks felt like a huge step backwards to me. Over all though the line was a lot of fun and I have a greater retroactive appreciation for how they did something DIFFERENT and didn't just rehash G1.

I would love to see the Mini-Cons come back but I wish the media had played up the interactivity more. Based on their alt mode you had extra weapons (including figures with working missile launchers), jump jets, gadgets, the headlights could be flashlights or lasers (made of light), and even armor. All the shows, comics, and books said were "power boosters who activate gimmicks". I also find it fun to find older Transformers or Transformers outside of the Unicron trilogy (though it pretty much disappeared by Cybertron outside of Vector Prime) that are compatible with Mini-Cons like RID Optimus and Ultra Magnus or reissue Hot Rod allowing his gun to connect to a Mini-Con if the plug was in the right spot, thus giving said Mini-Con a huge gun on its roof.

I was somewhat there. It came out at a weird time for me. I was old enough to barely remember the tail end of Transformers on TV, and have a few "Go-Bots"(those small Transformers cars that looked like Hot Wheels), but Beast Wars was my childhood. I watched RID for a while, but never had any figures from it back then. Then, while RID was still on, something happened with my parents, and I lost almost everything I grew up with and went to a contained, structured placement for a few years. Armada started while I was there, and I remember catching a handful of episodes, but more importantly, we had $10-12 a week to go to Target, and I would pick up a Minicon set or a Deluxe figure if I had enough. Also, me and another guy who was into it pooled it a couple times, once for Megatron, and once for Starscream. Also while I was still there, My parents bought me Unicron from the outside for Christmas shortly before I was able to go home. Once I was out though, my focus turned more to recollecting my old Beast Wars figures that I lost, and I never got into Energon or Cybertron at the time. Now as an adult, I have figures from almost every line, however. But yeah, Armada has kind of a connection with me because of what was going on at the time it was out.

The opinion of Armada was mostly negative at the board I was at until Unicron was announced. In fact, the episode where he first showed up was a big deal, I think at that time there was no toy announced, I believe it was a surprise to most that Unicron was involved (Though I could be remembering it wrong). From that point the momentum shifted I think. When the toy actually come out, it was amazing. My infatuation with the toyline started at the tail-end of Armada, and while I had seen the 1986 movie years prior from a video rental store on a whim, it wasn't until Cybertron that I got involved with the cartoons. From my perspective, Transformers just always was and always would be. It's so weird to have it put into words outright that "oh yeah, the older series didn't just poof into existence the second I learned about them" and that everything between G1 and the point I got on the train could be considered one long series of experiments.

My parents were firmly in the 'You're too old for toys' area of parenting when Armada came round, so I didn't get any of the Armada toyline. Probably for the best, because I was never fond of overly invasive gimmicks in my transforming robots, something that still stands to this day (unless they are implemented in a way in which they don't interfere with the rest of the figure). That said, despite how overly goofy the cartoon tended to be, I did enjoy it. I wanted POTP Starscream (as well as not being crap) to have some nods to the Armada version, I think it was a missed opportunity given it combined, and the Armada toyline literally gave two potentials in the form of his minicons (admittedly Swindle would need a different name since Swindle was already in the line, but I'd have loved to have him and Zapmaster - both subtle remoulds of CW Dragstrip - as King Starscream's combiner arms).

Speaking of anniversaries, it's Akibaranger's 10th anniversary this month, that could be a subject for a video!

I was too young to join the online discourse, but I do remember missing the animals from Beast Wars...but then I got addicted to Minicons and the huge, chunky, borderline playset of a toy that each bigger Armada toy was, it was marvelous. Sure, a lot of them were bricks, but they were the prettiest, most fun bricks ever.

I grew up on the Unicron Trilogy so I have (and always will have) a massive soft spot for Armada Ik the show isnt perfect, but I still love it to pieces. Mainly due to nostalgia, but there are some things I will defend unironically. 1. Garry Chalk as Optimus Prime...I love it. Honestly my favorite Optimus voice, i dont care how sacreligious that is. No disrespect to Peter Cullen, love the guy and he is THE iconic Optimus voice...but Garry is what I grew up with and will always prefer. 2. Armada Starscream is the BEST version of the character, full stop

It was great to hear your opinion about the toyline, but what did you think of Armada & Micron Legend as shows? I'm super curious & would love to know how ya felt about them. Like did ya enjoy the sub over the dub? Do you always go by the English names instead of the Japanese names? Which characters were amongst your favorites? Things like that.

Mini cons existed in Armada energon and Cybertron power link ing also existed in Armada like for example with jet fire and Optimus prime and Optimus prime with overload and Optimus prime with both of them at least in the toy line in energon Optimus prime had the drones that he first power linked with then later on wings saber came in and gave Optimus prime two different modes to form with wing saber. Then Optimus prime joins with Omega supreme to pull another combo Optimus supreme I believe. Then in Cybertron Optimus prime still powerlinked with other other Autobots like for example Optimus prime and Leo breaker jointed to become Savage claw mode and later on in that series Optimus prime and Wing saber joined up together become Sonic Wing mode. So in other words to put it simply Armada the main gimmick was minicons, energon the gimmick was power linking, but then Cybertron the main gimmick was cyber planet keys. In all three series they had two similar gimmicks in all three series. I'll admit by the time Cybertron rolled around the mini-cons want that plentiful there was only like four of them with the Autobots, one with vector sigma and the other three with the three human children..

I my 1st Transformer was Cybertron Prime and the 1st new Transformers media I saw was the 07 movie. So, of course I went down the rabbit hole and watched (most) of Transformers' English speaking media which does obviously include Armada. As a stupid little kiddie wink (bonus points for those that get that reference) I thought that Armada took place after RID as, Prime 1st looked a lot like RID Prime before he took on his iconic Armada earth mode. And have watched it to completion at least once... with all the good writing in the 2nd half going over my head. I do have some toys from back then in my collection mostly Minicons as, a shop used to stock Transformers blind candy bags which had a random Minicon inside it. And since the 07 movie was using literally any mould they had on them to fill shelves, that's how I got a hold of "Inferno" whom swears that his name is "Red Alert awo awo awo". Nowadays, I'm tempted to get one toy from this line some day. Probably some version of "Bendy Prime" due to the fact that, he won't burn my house down due to bad design...

Armada is what got me into this franchise. My first toy I remember was Armada Megatron. I will defend the franchise, faults and all, to the day I leave this fandom. Yes, the cartoon had bad production but the story itself had plenty to explore, especially in the subbed with more polish and care. Best Unicron to date and I will accept no argument otherwise

One thing I recently learned, the Japanese dub had a far better soundtrack. I have fond memories of the Armada toyline, only really ever owned Decepticons from the line but there were some great fun toys despite not having the greatest articulation, the Minicon range and variety was great and really should have been how Hasbro should have looked at for the Siege/Earthrise Micromasters rather than forcing awful "gun" modes onto all but one pairing (who really should have been redceoed into Runway and Jetstorm)

I actually joined the fandom with Energon of all things, but for me the early 00s era in general (RID - Cybertron), were really the origin of my Transformers obsession (and yes it is an obsession) and I really loved/still love that era. And of course Armada has one major legacy; Nemesis Prime (for that matter RID has a claim to that legacy as well, since their Scourge lay the groundwork for what Armada would make with Nemesis) I'm really hoping that Legacy, or what comes after it will revitialse some of those designs.

Tidal Wave also had the smallest Mini-con of the entire toy line and it still had to be folded up to store inside of him. I freaking hated Ramjet (Tidal Wave's Mini-con) because it was so small and had the worst articulation compared to all the other Mini-cons. Rollout in contrast was the largest Mini-con plus it technically had 4 modes cause it was a vehicle, a robot, a Headmaster for Overload and a Target Master for when they combined with Optimus Prime. I love the Tidal Wave figure but he just has the worst Mini-con. I also want to point out, as long as we're comparing this to RID2001, that the 2001 Super Modes were better than what we got in Armada. Optimus' trailer actually forms armor for him as apposed to Armada where he's just wearing pants. The Combination with Ultra Magnus again actually feels like an integration between the two characters as apposed to Armada just wearing Jetfire as pants. He also gets a shield on his chest and Overload as huge shoulder cannons which is pretty cool but still feels like a step down from RID2001. On the plus side Armada is still better than it's sequels. The Super Modes and combiner modes for Optimus just kept getting lazier and more simplified over time. That might be why they stopped doing them because even when the combined modes looked good they were so simplified that the individual figures usually suffered for that gimmick and some times they suffered for a gimmick that didn't even look good when combined. Leobreaker is literally just an arm and the figure is known to suffer for that gimmick that doesn't even look good. BTW I kind of love that Soundwave and Blaster's cassettes have been retroactivly called Mini-cons after this series. RID2015 also gave us Mini-cons but I don't think they worked as well as they did in Armada.

I don't think anything is as just filler, I enjoy each series equally, regardless of strengths weaknesses or problems with the series. I have the r i d Optimus prime and he was solid even though the armor and his main weapon made him top heavy. And later on this year I will be getting the ultra Magnus Optimus prime to pack from rid and there's no telling how top heavy Omega prime is going to be when you put ultra Magnus on top of Optimus prime.

I'l date myself, I am one of the latter sons of GiG the first wave of Armada was the last time we got the top choise, after that distribution would fall and become a mess and as a country we would miss on endless good toys ironically, we got an overabbundance of smokescreens, hotrod and later sideswipe, but we got plenty of megatrons, optimuses and demolisher as well. sometimes I wonder if I should not have grabbed that discount gameboy game and took sideways instead. still, even after all this years, is still far more common finding takara carrobots and various G1-trought-G2 than anything armada on the local garage sales the unicron trilogy was the last few years of good dubbing; with actually capable people in every position and even managing to tweack a little, resulting in all bot having more consistent spikes of assholery without at least some of the idiot balls of the english version. also, armada finally gave all of us the Unicron toy, which was unchallenged up to last year

Armada is slightly before my time and tbh I think it's pretty lame. The first half of the show is a slog and felt like g1 without the charming characters that made all the flaws bearable, although the unicron battles did redeem it to a large extent. And the toys are by and large awful from what I've handled, the only ones I'd consider good are Unicron, Tidal wave, Jetifre, and Megatron. Bendy Prime, Starscream, and Demolisher are pretty decent as well.
