When they first arrived in the UK it was like day and night compared to the British motors of the time. Not particularly fast but could pull far better than the British ones. They also had power steering, hydraulic clutch, synchro gear box, a heater that worked and mirrors that you could see through. Compared to today's motor's they are very old fashioned, but back then wow.

Some great pictures, when I started my apprenticeship in 1973 at Enfield Rolling Mills, they had just started to replace 6 wheel Albion's with 6 wheel F86, they looked stunning in dark blue livery and white signwriting, if only I'd had a camera in them days. Later when I started at Gilbeys Harlow in 79, Swift transport F86 artic's were regularly seen both on glass deliveries and finished goods collections.

Fantastic. Great to see that little bubble cabbed game changer. We had quite a few at Silver Roadways, Greenwich (long closed) in the late 70's. 😊

Baldry's transport from Orcop in Herefordshire had the first one supplied by Griffin Mill Garages at Pontypridd. It was an E reg. They ended up with 11 tractors & a 6 wheeler.Up against english lorries of the era they were like driving a Rolls Royce. Quiet & comfortable, pull like a train & the diff lock got you out of trouble.

What workhorses the F86 where I've never sat in or driven one, compared to some of the Brits I drove the F86 was far better, no sleeper cab but it had a parcel shelf you could lay on. Thanks for the memories.
