If you want a grid connection for your workshop eventually, the electrical panels with transformers could be a good deal as the utility will charge you a mint to sell you a transformer.. I'd suggest paying an engineer or electrical inspector for a consult and seeing what size and voltage rating you might need and then keep an eye out for something that fits the bill..

Doubt he will have 3 phase 480 brought to his shop. The utility does not sell you a transformer. They usually charge you up to 49% of the cost to install the line to your property. They own the majority so they are responsible. You can, if so inclined to, buy power at high voltage and run your own lines but it is not cost effective unless you have a large farm or facility to do that.

It was powered by a 100 HP screw air unit. Great system and every bench draw off had it's own drip leg. The upright was set up with a timer moisture auto bleed system which vented outside. I would suggest that you buy that Crane and put it up first, with proper concrete footings and everything else. And then later on assemble the building around it. That makes the most sense to me the crane might even be helpful as a Gantry and to move building materials around. And you sure could use the hell out of it in the meantime. This may require a little rain-proofing if the electrical boxes aren't really designed for outdoors but it's doable.

11:29 the brake is inside the transmission, that's why it stalls when you're in gear and hit it too hard. The advantage of this is, you can apply equal breaking action without having four individual brakes on each tire if you lock all 3 diifs. It's also much more reliable as you don't have exposed lines etc.

@RubenKelevra2 жыл бұрын
Regarding your air tank: I think you want to add a oneway valve on the output side and a oneway valve on the input side plus a overpressure valve which only lets air into the tank when your compressor nearly reached its shutdown point. This way you first fill the small tank on the compressor and the pressure rises very quickly in your whole system, while the large tank will only fill up when your compressor normally cut off. The compressor will then continue to run until the large tank is filled as wwll. When you use a large amount of air the large tank will continue to supply air to your system as long as the system pressure is below the tank pressure. This way it will supplement your air compressor when needed, while you can start working right away as soon as the small tank is full. Make sure to also add cutoff valves on the output side, to allow to cut the air tank off your system, as any small leak will otherwise cost you a lot of money if you don't use the air system for a while and the large tank will empty itself.

Hey Matt, are you hooking up your new shop with 120/208 3phase or 277/480? If you are getting a high voltage feed you could definitely make use of a transformer and dual panel setup from the cracker plant so you can run dual voltage 3 phase (480 for running big motors and lighting and 120/208/240 for regular receptacles and welding 2- and 3-leg setups with 208 or 240 volts)…just thought I’d throw that out there.

I’m sorry but that crane is going to be expensive to install! Sure it looks cool. I have been around those kind of cranes for a long time. In most cases they are seldom used and rarely justify the time and expense of their original installation costs, let alone maintenance and safety testing they are required to have. The motors are most likely 3 phase, so they will have to be replaced. Who is saying it even works properly and safely? To get the full capacity of the crane you will need a complete steel support structure installed, unless you plan to only use it at a fixed point. In that case there are way cheaper ways of accomplishing that. The Richie Bros. Auctions can make you buy crazy stuff! Good luck! I enjoyed the video Matt. It’s always interesting to see what is selling there. I keep thinking we will see your new shop from the drone. Oh well.

Well Matt, thanks for another great video. I see many comments about leaving the crane at full length sticking out one end of the building , what they don’t get is that doing so would limit your use of the crane since you would be limited to use it only in the middle of the shop which could terribly limit your work space. That Military 10K forklift is a beast, it’s rated at 10K under the worst combat conditions, it can handle 12K in flat ground any time; I operated one in the Army for a few years and it’s awesome even in muddy terrain. Can’t wait to see the vids of you working on all this and piping that big tank into the shop, however I’d suggest you don’t put it inside the shop unless you have a hydrostatic test performed. You have no idea what kind of abuse it may have been exposed to and there could be hidden damage that could lead to a catastrophic failure… that’s a possible huge fragmentation grenade. An outside building for the compressor and tank is not only safer but makes for a quieter shop.

Had a boss that had some Ritchie Bros Auctions each year on his land. Some days you just wanted to duct tape the bosses hands down. He'd buy stuff to use on a project then sell it off after he was done with it. After the auctions I'd have to go up and get our stuff running again because people would do stuff to the equipment to get it cheaper. Like when the bosses kid stopped to pick me up because an old wd45 allis wouldn't start for the auction. One look and I said the coil wire is fake because I just changed the wires and the coil wire looks different. Someone pulled the coil wire boots off and put them on a old piece of hose that later turned out came from the wiper washers of an old truck that was for sale. Was a great way to keep sharp at problem solving after the sales.LOL The old glass fuse gets heated up and they pull the end cap and a little bending and put the cap back on so it don't look blown unless you check it with a test light. After a few times of that he hired a guy to keep an eye on the stuff and the problems stopped. Shame though because it was kinda fun seeing the creative ways people try and get a deal.

Word of encouragement, build the building after and around the required crane support verticals and running rails . Modifications are easier on paper, and way, way cheaper. Since your Kobelco has already served as a lifting device,be sure to put in a shop overhead door big enough for it to sling in what you want in the building. Once under the indoor crane, the load can be slung to anywhere the crane covers. Good choices, for "not sticking to a list". And air tanks are like sheds, you always wish you had a bigger one...

The add on bed tanks for Fords will kill the 6.7L fuel system . Moisture collects in them and rusts the tank and the filler neck. When the 6.7 fuel pump grenades and sends the metal through the fuel system its 8-12 grand to replace every blessed part. injectors, lines, pump sometimes even the tank and in our case the filler neck to the stock frame rail mounted tank. Been there , done it and wont do it again.

Matt, you might want to talk to an electrician as some of those electrical panels might save your a fair $ on your electrical install at the new building. namely the step-down transformers.

Hey Matt. Sounds like an F 550 Cummins swap (or was that a DEEtroit strapped to the trailer) is in the works. Glad you got a side by side-those are super handy. Overhead cranes are a dream come true for lots of us. You won't regret that huge air tank. Nicely done sir! Can't wait to see the new shop. Thanks for posting.

That overhead will make so many projects possible. I ran a 50 ton, with two 25 ton carriages at a shipyard. All day up there, with the goddamn pigeons and people yelling at you.

You need to keep the crane in tac, run full length of shop and let the leftovers go out the doors to out side, easy to bring items in to the shop. Use it to unload trailers, engines etc out doors, the extra 10 or 12 foot is great for many things you haven't even thought about yet. You got a great buy, my cost 275k. Would recommend 16 foot ceiling. ,

They are a little pricy, but if you can find a roots style air compressor they kick a standard piston compressor's ass. Quieter and much higher CFM, we have one in the truss plant and it will fill our entire system in minutes. My guess on the clark fork truck was 5-10 ton. Given how you said the trailer and crane are a sperate video and this one ended with the ol Autocar heading out, maybe you got her ready for work already.

In my opinion your best bet for a good skidder if you want a small one get a John Deere 440 or a 540 if you want a big one get a 640 or 740

Recall that Matt has been busy, too. This video footage could be months old (which would explain the ran and mild weather)
@toddtaylor29492 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s what I’m trying to remember is that most of his videos are a month or more back which is fine but when I watch them in my head I’m thinking this video is from last week which is most likely wrong. I understand he has a lot going on and that’s good so no rush but I am ready to see what progress has been made.

@@CAPNMAC82 judging by the condition of the orange Autocar in this one its probably more recent. Since it looks like it was at least after he cut the frame down to stock length again.

Outstanding video!! My favorite was the puddle in the beginning. I live in western Pennsylvania and we have had less than 1/2 inch of rain in my area since June 1. So, a puddle is a rare sight. I forgot what one looked like. Thanks for the puddle.

A really nice, and apparently little used crane! of course at this stage, couldn't you change the size of the building?
@PaulHigginbothamSr2 жыл бұрын
Matt, ya'll should keep the crane length because ya'll can build the shop to fit the width and heaven only knows Ritchi might even have cheap I -beam supports for your beauteous shop to come. Ya'll will need serious rebar for the floor so hit don't crack.

The thing about the overhead crane - let it go out of the building - allowing it to bring in and take out, not just at the doorway.

the crane its easy to cut it to size. BUT let a professionalwelder on that if that weld is gonna rip you have a BIIIG problem. (german Steelworker) and get good supportbeams for that crane then, you will lift more than you think when you have one makes loading and unloadig smallstuff easy like a hydraliccylinder or a excavator bucket that needs some repair

25% sellers fee, and a 5% buyers fee. Ritchie bros needs to lower these fees. Double dipping on sales fees. It's ridiculous.
