What will the world economy look like after 2050? The balance of economic power is set to shift during the next half century, as fast-growing emerging markets such as China and Brazil account for a larger share of global output and world GDP, while developed countries such as the United States and Japan see their share easing back. These OECD projections, which pre-date the coronavirus pandemic, are not set in stone, and economic reforms to improve performance could alter future world rankings. For more information on the long-term outlook, visit: www.oecd.org/economy/lookingt...
ABOUT THE OECD
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is an international organisation established in 1960 that works collaboratively to build better policies for better lives. Our goal is to shape policies that foster prosperity, equality, opportunity and well-being for all. Together with governments, policy makers, policy shapers, and citizens, we work on establishing evidence-based international standards and finding solutions to a range of social, economic and environmental challenges.
From improving economic performance and creating jobs to fostering strong education and fighting international tax evasion, we provide a unique forum and knowledge hub for data and analysis, exchange of experiences, best-practice sharing, and advice on public policies and international standard-setting. To learn more about the OECD, our global reach, and how to join us, go to www.oecd.org/about/. Keep up with latest at the OECD, visit www.oecd.org/.

Which - for me! - is MIND-BLOWING! i mean - the country (Brazil) has EVERYTHING! Minerals - oil - raw-materials - manpower ...FUCK IT! - EVERYTHING IN PLACE to (potentially) become the LEADING ECONOMY OF LATIN AMERICA (along Argentina). Now! - I'm not an economist, but I WONDER HEAVILY why that isn't happening?... USA's "monopolistic influence" over Latin/Southern America?? - it can't explain it ALL!... Some sort of "endemic" & internal inefficiency, due to things like corrupt institutions & little political stability?? WHAT??

In 1920, the "oil peak" was forecast for year 1924, and the production of oil was 100 times less than now. You cannot imagine how it is difficult to keep the market price of oil at current level, in order to provide such an amount of taxes for producing and consuming countries. 94 % of what you pay in service stations is such taxes.

I just wonder one thing. How is it possible for such a big GDP growth for the world as a whole (which we can reason from the growing of non OECD countries) to take place if growth has traditionally been a result of fossil fuels usage and now they are beginning to be depleted? It's not actually the only doubt that I have when watching this video, but I don't really find any possible answer.

the thing about developing countries economies is that it is like a game of hungry hippos and that it is a power gap and the nations grab as much as they can to get a better advantage but a downside to this is if nations increase too rapidly they can come across a number of issues and fall back into their place all while slowly increasing living standards for the people until the nation is stable. Well developed nations like the U.S. cannot grow quickly as developing nations but its development is more stable This is why I believe the Gov is allowing more immigrants to lower the development of the united states, but this also has issues that are mainly focused around the people such as less jobs.

vivek sharma They also cultured and educated the population and the way of thinking itself. They also built alot of cities in Asia. I'm not saying Britain was an angel, but it was clear it will also take resources from, basically, a vassal, and they didn't ruin the land how other big countries did in, for example, some parts of Africa. Remember that, if USA was a poor undeveloped country, everyone would say that is UK's and France's fault for taking resources out of America, even if this is an unclear indictment. In hundreds of years the economy is changed by more factors than just "it was a vassal in past", it's also changed on the strength of development, government, unemployment, population's mindset and much more. I've documented sufficiently aforetime on this subject, do you really want to know how an India controlled by the own religion, type of "thinking" and wars with neighbors enemies but without any type of defense from a strong power and without any european impact or mingle for 2000+ years would look like? Even if I don't like saying this, India was not Japan to always fighting to get in the "high levels" of power in the world.

Conclusion: In country with election, it’s likely that opposing party to the current one may win the election, which could reverse all previous leader doing just like what Biden did to trump order, what trump did to Obama order, every 4 year!! whereas country without election ensure that policy get implemented thus ensuring a relative stable business environment which definitely correlate to economic growth.

This projection has allready failed. China will not be as big as their growth were based on massive export. Now its clear that their export has fallen and even more interesting that their import has fallen too. They wanted to shift their economy from export driven to domestic driven, but imports suggest they fail. And the shocking part is that they now also fail on export. Chinese companies have more debt than US companies. US companies has a high revenue, while chinese companies hardly make money. Especially the export companies. That might lead to a debt crisis or a crisi of bankcrupt business in China.

Your post made your point very clear:) sorry, that was a bad joke. But in all seriousness I guess the one advantage India has over China is stability. India wouldn't be worry about an Arab Spring style revolution, while in China a major "revolution" is still very likely, and who knows what that could lead to? Chaos, or merely a smooth democratic transformation?.

GDP per capita is the same figure of wealth divided by the number of people in the country, so it's still basically an average. I think it will eventually reach a point where there are so many extremely wealthy people in China, and such a large middle class, that even in terms of GDP per capita it will be ranking highly. Granted it may not do as well as Germany for a long time, but then Germany is not mentioned in this video at 2:57.

@sav12600 Peak oil has already been reached in a multitude of countries. The Wikpedia page for Peak Oil has a graph clearly showing this. As for metals/minerals, based on current extraction rates, the following reserves will be depleted in the coming decades. All info is available at the US Geological Survey: 2022 - Antimony 2026 - Indium 2029 - Silver 2031 - Lead 2033 - Phosphorus 2035 - Tin That's just a few examples. Fish stocks are also severely depleted and will likely run out by 2050.

1) it's true there are less differences between the countries, but inside the countries the inequalities are fastly growing !! this means a little oligarchy of rich people will (and already are) have all the politic decisions in their own hands ... 2) your dream of GDP growth is just nonsense ! due to our energy-rarefaction we will have a global economy that will degrow, there is nothing to do about that and it's not at all annoying also, it only brings some responsability. because if the OECD-countries keep having their own growth, this will only make poor countries have a bigger degrowth, and it's actually already what's happening ! conclusion : please, stop to push our GDP above the ecological limits and share fairly what we have (even if it is decreasing) between all people on our planet, that's all we ask ...

Yes and We need an Ecological Balance of economic growth: YES WE CAN 2016 - 2116 is an encouragement for mankind to save a sustainable biosphere on earth by a free decision for OneChildPolicy. To reduce worldpopulation from 7.4 Billion in 2016 to the tolerable size of TWO Billion (2x10^9) according to ecological research e. g. Donella and Dennis Meadows ('Beyond the Limits'), Stanford- University of California (Biologist Paul R. Ehrlich, 'The Population Bomb') and the BertTheAce Research-Institute for Ecology (Foundation, 'World Biosphere') we need FOUR Generations (100 years) of OneChildPolicy worldwide on a free decision. If we succeed with worldwide OCP for the coming 100 years, mankind has a good chance to reach a balance between consumption of natural resources, pollution and recovery of a sustainable biosphere for thousands of generations.......and isn't the care for our biosphere on earth a better option for mankind, than to try to escape to Mars, who did already loose his biosphere ? kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2Wbk5VoZ8uDmqs HISTORY will CONFIRM BertTheAce and his MASTERPLAN 'YES WE CAN 2016 - 2116'

How I see the future: Estonia, an unknown country today, will receive a lot of visibility due to the weakness of the Eurozone and due to its succesful libertarian policies. USA will enter Peter Schiff's "Real Decline of American Economy". There is no escape, shit will really hit the fan. Same with France, Spain, Britain and Italy. Germany will prevail, though. China will be harmed by its imobiliary bubble, but its industry will remain strong. Australia and Hong Kong will prevail above all.

Decent enough video. However per capita income would be a better indicator than GDP for how a country is doing. Many of these countries (ex. India) may have bigger GDP's but actually be poorer since their population grows quicker than GDP. And while Japan may go from 7 to 3%, it's population will also fall by more than half, making little change to per capita.

Okay, but why is Growth so important? cant we just stay at a level, and then instead of growing, make our middle classes and poor people better off? like reducing the amount of money they get taxed, so they can also live a richer life? Economic growth is a number that does not describe how people live, how much buying power each individual has, and surtainly doesnt give a picture of how the weath gap in a country is.. take a look at the video "Global Weath inequality - what you never knew you never knew".. what you will see, is a well functioning economic country, with high growth. But at the same time, its people have less and less to survive of.. Except if your in the top 20% wealth wise.. :) question everything guys..

Yes there is inequality in the US. But GDP per capita is GDP per capita. France has its own wealth inequality also. I don't think it is fake GDP per capita for US. You Americans see other countries like tourists. Living in many of them as a normal public is way less than the American mid class standards.
