The knives you see in hanging in front of the rooms (odd shaped) are called Keris/Kris. They are traditional Malay combat knives. The rooms are most probably used to house Malay Regiment soldiers, hence the signage Malay O R 1. We have Malay regiments all around South Asia during the war, all trained by the British, mostly volunteers. They fought the Japanese to the bitter end. Singapore was the last to fall (due to the location from the direction of attack from the North).
