My Father passed Tuesday. Aramis is the scent I grew up smelling. He and my uncles splashed it frequently. I will be wearing the last of one of his old bottles to the funeral. Lots of wonderful memories with that scent. Glad it made the list. Seems many great men wore Aramis. Love your list, love your channel, love the work you do! Cheers!😁

@The Perfume Guy Thank you so much! Just know you brought us joy. These past few months have been tough. A while ago, we watched some of your videos (winter/Christmas). Every time you said Gooey, he would smile. Though it was 20 years ago, it sounds like your father was a wonderful man, and I know you miss him. I am happy that our Father's gave us the wonderful gift of being passionate about fragrances. Have a Great Day!

Sorry about your father's passing. My father passed away three years ago at nearly 87 years old. He also wore Aramis back in the late 60's early 70's when he and my mother would go out on the weekends. I have a bottle of Aramis too.

Guerlain Vetiver is so...awakening. First time I ever sniffed it was in a duty-free shop. Sprayed it on tester paper, sniffed, and it was almost like an out-of-body experience. I was suddenly floating in a cloud of breathable green water that maddeningly (in a good way) filled me with associations of...I didn't know what, something beautiful and new and fresh, from an innocent happy time. I didn't buy it that time, but have bought it since. No, it doesn't give me that transcendent blast anymore every time I use it, but yes it IS still wonderful every time.

Greeting from Amsterdam. If I May mention couple of other iconic old classic fragrances: 1. Pierre Balmain Ebene 1983 (always ladies asking me what cologne you are wearing) 2. Nino Cerruti Pour Homme Cerruti 1979 (always ladies asking me what cologne you are wearing) 3. Guerlain Coriolan 1998 4. Trussardi Uomo 1983 5. Mugler B*Men 2004 6. Caron Yatagan 1978 7. Since you likely have (most of) them, Sebastian, it would be interesting to compare vintage to current versions. Frightening, probably disappointing, but interesting, nonetheless. // I would add New West for Men, Chaps, Davidoff Cool Water, Oleg Cassini for men, Obsession for men, CK One, and CK Eternity for men, Gucci Nobile, Quorum, Aspen for men. AND ... Ho Hang, which as a woman, I have loved & worn forever! Finally recognized for the great scent it is. Got some funny looks when I told people the name of that one, back in the day. :D

I've never smelled Aramis (at least not knowingly). I've seen you guys and a few other talk about it a lot so next time I come across a bottle, I'm going to give it a sniff. Drakkar was something that I didn't personally wear but I am certainly familiar with it. My cousin and I were raised together and I he was a Drakkar Noir guy and I was a Brut and CK One guy.

I’ve always loved Givenchy’s “PI”!! I remember growing up in the 80’s (a teenager) and seeing the perfume counters at Bloomingdale’s and I would always stop by the Gayle Hayman (GEORGIO and shortly after RED fragrance fame)….but there was always one that stopped the press for men as far as I was concerned was PI! There was always hype about POLO and in fact my Mum had a gigantic display bottle of it in the house…I dunno why because that one always smelled like bathroom cleaner to me😂😂! Anyway I’m a fan of PI and I love the smell of suede’s,woods, leather, cars, rubber, tar and even airline runway tarp!!

Antaeus was the son of the gods Poseidon and Gaea, one of the Gigantes, in Greek mythology. He drew strength from his mother, earth, and was invincible while he was in contact with her; he challenged people who passed by his area to wrestling matches, in which he always won, and killed them in the end. Kouros is the modern term given to free-standing Ancient Greek sculptures that depict nude male youths

Drakkar Noir is a scent I will always associate with my dad. Even as a small child I have vivid memories of the smell on him after he took his post-work shower. Before I was really familiar with fragrances I always saw the bottle sitting on his washroom table and wondered what it was. In high school, it was time for my first cologne, and of course he gave me Drakkar Noir.

Great list. Eau Sauvage is still amazing and soooo refreshing. For me Puig Aqua Brava is a great classic. Also Quorum. Versace L'Homme (brown box) and YSL Homme and Opium Pour Homme. And Loewe Essencia and Van Cleef&Arpels Tzar are true Classics for me. And not to forget Chanel Egoiste. Maybe you can do a list of classic niche frags. Some Lutens by example are real classics. (Chergui!). Greetings from Holland.🌷

As I am getting older, I am beginning to appreciate more of these older/classic fragrances and you guys just listed some of the best/iconic fragrances! The one you didn't mention, which is my all time favorite men's fragrance is Armani Pour Homme and to this day, I still wear it. Luckily, I have the reformulated bottle as well the original formulation (1984) which I use very sparingly. Great video, Sebastian and please do more of these classic fragrances if you can.

Apparently, I'm an old soul, because even as a teen I'd wear my grandpa's perfumes. (Dagger by Dina Cosmetics being one of them. An extreme cheapie, to be sure, but I liked it!) Love these fragrances, Kouros and Antheus I don't remember exactly how they smell I need to revisit them. I never liked Aramis, but it's been a long time since I last smell it maybe now I appreciate it more. That smoooooth sweet lavendin-musk in Drakkar Noir still gets me sometimes. When I've sprayed it on my body and put a shirt on right away, that shirt smells heavenly the next day. No grungy herbs or spices, just pure sweet goodness. Much prefer it over the dry, fuzzy dihydromyrcenol drydown of Cool Water. That one probably more popular though. Ditto with CK One. But I'm not a fan of the new CK One edt formulation. I prefer CK All, although I've yet to try 1Palace and Reflections. Too many flankers, too many discontinuations. 😵💫

Polo I think sits in the iconic iconics section if there is such a thing! You know when you were a kid, the aftershave was a splash not a spray and lived on the bathroom shelf. The spray lived in the glove compartment. Back in the day there were places for things. Versace dreamer edged kouros in my opinion. I did also like hugo boss elements. That was quite decent

Speaking of Dior Homme Parfum, I recently picked up a bottle of Iris Empire by Carolina Herrera and it’s a great take on the same idea, but still unique. It has a boozy davana that remind me of 1740. Like a mix of 1740 and Dior Homme Parfum. Super powerful, sexy and luxurious smelling. I think it’s a Middle East exclusive but fragrance buy stocks it. Defiantly worth a sample.

Does anyone remember a men's cologne named "Catalyst?" I had it in high school. I had the gift set that was the cologne, after shave, and some other item. It was in test tube like bottles and 1 of them had 2 types of liquids and you had to shake it to mix it. I can't remember what it smelled like but I remember loving it.

I seem to recall in the 80s here in the UK that drakkar noir's price was very cheap. I remember seeing it on the shelf, bunched with all the cheap aftershaves. Where as the more expensive aftershaves were behind the counter, or glass cabinets. I never picked it up though, now i really want to try it out, as im a sucker for chypre sandalwood fragrances.....👍🇬🇧👍

I find Drakkar Noir Intense is more close to the original formulation then the current bottle. Of course my absolute favorite is actually not a perfume but an aftershave - Sirs Irisch Moos, I use to save up to buy a small bottle from the store and wore it sparingly through my late teens. It has that rough green wildness that I'm so into. Extremely hard to find now.

Tired of people trashing current Antaeus.. It's my signature fragrance and I have bottles from all reformulations, the current version is excellent and is far from being light or soft, it's actually more animalic than vintage bottles, which are smoother due to how effortlessly natural castoreum blends with rose

@@ThePerfumeGuy yes tired of the inaccuracies spread about the current version of Antaeus, I never said you're not allowed an opinion, so don't conflate the two.
