Outstanding musician Erroll Garner composed Misty in a matter of minutes on a flight from San Francisco to Chicago in 1954. He described being inspired by the clouds and thoughts of his wife. Originally, this piece was an instrumental composed in the 32-bar format, however later, lyrics were added by lyricist Johnny Burke. I’m truly fascinated by how what seemed like second nature to Garner became widely recognized as one of the most beautiful Jazz standards to ever be composed. This man truly was special. I thank you for playing it so beautifully, Laufey.
