BRAIN FART ANNOTATIONS FOR THIS VID :- i did plug welding, when i did the voiceover i just didnt think. originally these panels would have been spot welded, but because i dont have a spot welder i plug welded with a mig welder. it wasn't obvious this video is not sponsored in any way, i just emailed roll over jigs to ask about the postage options, and they replied before i had a chance to think. which definitely contributed to the decision, and now its done! and in the middle of this project i can say a jig is very handy! however you can get away with the slightly cheaper one i think. the wheels and frame while they are useful to move around and flip the car for filming, in somewhere where it doesnt need to move! its not necessary :). anyways!

Love it. I also love the “it looks bodged but it’s not bodged” approach. And if you, or someone else, want to make it look not bodged later, it’s got a good foundation. You’ll also find that there’s not too much that feels better than getting a project like this to the point where you can work on it without rust falling off.

A power finger file belt sander thingmabob is what you want for all that grinding. Was SO much nicer for tidying welds when I was doing my car last year than trying to be delicate with an angle grinder, especially in awkward spaces. The blue belts seem to be the thing for metal.

Loving it! I did a lot of welding cars as a side gig. A very nice bit of kit is a manual sheet metal hole punch, it is a lot quicker, easier and neater than drilling. I also used pizza/cerealbox cardboard for patterns. Just put it over of the hole and press on the edges, you will get a pretty neat imprint of the hole, even if it is contoured. And lastly, those seams that were the origin of all the rust will be again and it is very hard to prevent this. There are some weld primers and stuff but with my 2cv I decided to dunk the whole thing in a bath of zinc. Quite expensive but after that your bodywork will stay in tact. I left mine just blank zinc (like street lanterns and stuff). Nice job! Loving the non polished but sound approach

Seeing the bottom of your Mini reminded me of my first car. A Ford Escort Mk1, given to me by my Mum as the car dealer they were getting their new car from gave them a bigger discount than Escort was worth in part exchange. The Escort was a two door with seat that tipped forward so you could get in the back. The floor was so rusty it was only the carpet that stopped the passenger seat dragging on the road. Obviously it didn’t pass its next MOT so it was scrapped. I had it for about nine months. I didn’t carry passengers, in the front.

It's really inspiring and also kind of crushing how this this vehicle was designed in a way that makes repairing so much damage extremely possible. The parts aren't free and this many isn't cheap, but you can just get them, you can just put them on with basic tools. Almost everything I own would be an ordeal to repair comparable damage, not just the doing but the how. Anyway I'm now enamored with Mini Cooper Pickups so thanks.

Good job, i really like your attitude of you doing what you want and making it look like a well used old car, but safe and functional, really good job on matching the paint work, everyone is obsessed with making things like new or perfect rather than making a gfood driveable car, safe and reliable is better than a garage queen of a car, i have a similar thing going with my nissan figaro, it has a few dings and dents, but its 100% mechanically sound and im going to drive the hell out of that car. cars are ment to be used not looked at. again good job
