That was kinda the point. Kattegat and Viking Norway didn't matter any more. The show made it apparent that the Vikings are a dying breed. @Joseph Martin No, the viking age lasted from 793 to 1066, The show chose to show from 793 - 875 (totally messing up real history in the process.) They literally mix the characters with other real people who had other names etc. Makes the show really bad in my opinion. In the earlier seasons when they attacked paris - that actually happened later than the final battle in the story so they go back and forth without care.

Pretty sure Othere was an older version of Hvitserk. At the end when he was given the name Athelstan, which was the name Othere once had. Also Othere and Hvitserk had gotten burns from the stomach, from when Bjorn tried to kill him after the Lagertha incident. Also Othere fought very similar and very good, comparing to Hvitserk when Ubbe asked him where he learned to fight like so. Idun the goddess of eternal youth, blessed Hvisterk after relaizing his mistakes from abandoning the brother he loved most. Truly beautiful by the writers to finish together the importance of Hvitserk.

Maybe Othere was like a part of Hvitserk's soul in a way. Because Hvitserk always wanted to be with Ubbe, but also wanted to be with Ivar, He was kind of with both of them by the end. Kind of like if Othere was Hvitserk's ideal self, the way he would be if he stayed with Ubbe. He helped him find the new, great land the way their father wanted to find new land. Maybe Hvitserk after he gets baptised prays to the God for Ubbe and for his success, and the God sends Othere as a watcher/protector for Ubbe? I like to think that way.

Bit of a late comment, but the video ended up in my recommended somehow 😅 I think the reason they went away from the shield wall was because vikings never actually fought in a propper shield wall, they were more crazy, charge into battle type people. Also, their shields were to thin to withstand a shield against shield clash, and were more just for protection against arrows. I think the writers realized this and corrected their mistakes... The shield walls were fun though :)

I mean just look at the way ragnars blood eagle was shot, the atmosphere, art direction and style was so good in those first few seasons. The acting, character development and overall plot lines are so much weaker post season 4. The sons are interesting but the plot isn’t. Gunhillde, Alfred, elsweth, Ingrid etc just arnt a compelling supporting cast. And to finish Kattegat in that weird way...not great.

Each happening throughout the season seemingly came out of nowhere and had little to do with any previous plot building or setup. Bjorn was disappointing, Gunhild was outta nowhere, Harald kinda made sense, Ivar’s death felt forced. The only redeeming thing seemed like it was finally figuring out what happened to Floki, alongside the final part of Ubbe’s story. Everything just felt strange and random. Super disappointing.

The schollors and historians can't be sure ragnar lothbrok ever exited (although he was my favourite by far in the show) rollo certainly existed and they had statues of him as far away as Russia besides being the duke of Normandy he was probably the most successful viking of his time.

Just finished it. The last few seasons were too artsy and not viking enough but I still liked it and it was a good enough way to end it. Alfred bossed up, lots of poetic justice, and I just wish they didnt make Sigurd so uncool because he had such a dope name.

The blue eyes don't signal that something bad will happen to Ivar... it's a sign of his bone disease and when it's at it's worse his eyes are bluer and his bones are much more brittle. Hvitsek says he gets hurt when it happens because his bones are so brittle even the struggle of walking and standing can break them.

I couldn't figure out what Hvitserk's game plan was. It ended beautifully with him almost smirking as though he had something up his sleeve. I wanted a bit more of a conclusion for his storyline.

Im going to agree with a comment that someone made on another post... Vikings did what game of thrones couldn't...entertain fans from beginning to end. The last season of the show provided a nice long...sigh of satisfaction. And surprisingly enough, I crown when ivar died...even after anxiously awaiting his demise. His character development from beginning to end was the most honest. He proved in the show that you didn't have to change believes in order to grow. I didn't intend to write this much, but I was really impressed...not only that but satisfied. Completely satisfied. Well done....

Ivar was the best viking to watch as he was so unpredictable and everyone feared him. If only he had the strength of his brother bjorn. Still the best scene on vikings in my opinion is when ivor is sat against the whole army in york and hes laughing or Bjorns death. Both scenes i wish i could watch again for the first time.

The show questions the existance of Valhalla the whole time. By not showing them reuiniting after death tells the viewers that Valhalla may not be true after all. The whole series kinda focuses on the topic of religion and the 'life after death'. The characters themselves have more and more doubts about the existance of the valhalla, gods etc, and so we should have doubts too. I like the fact that we don't see them reuniting because thay might have never reunited at all.
