I still can’t believe they skipped the era where Harald Bluetooth lived… Bluetooth ruled both Denmark and Norway, and is famous for being the viking King who was convinced to make the vikings Christians. He was a powerful King who built many great forts in Denmark and Norway, and had a great stone placed in Jutland, with runes reading: “Harald made the Danes Christian. The Harald who United all of Denmark and Norway too.” You can still go and see the stone to this day. At the end his own son, Sweyn Forkbeard, rebelled against him, and it was a kind of civil war thing, where Harald lost, was hunted out of Denmark and later died. Could make for a great tv show, but they chose to skip forward some hundred years…

By constantly peppering the show with woke race and gender role swaps and woke messages like “I believe her” the show creators degrade a viewer’s ability to immerse in historical realism and transport oneself back in time. It’s not total fealty to the history that matters to me (though I do appreciate broad historical accuracy) it is telling a great story with great acting that is utterly and truly historically plausible that makes for a great show. That is the kind of movie magic is utterly lost in this show with its undertones of propaganda interspersed throughout which transport viewers to the crappy reality of today’s culture wars and not the Viking and Anglo Saxon history of the past. I stopped watching in the middle of episode 2 despite being a fan of the original series. Wokeness is a cancer in our culture that ruins everything.

Weren’t like 400ad barbarians with no armor, shattered Saxon swords, never called themselves Vikings (was a Saxon word for pirate), must die with sword in hand or no Valhalla, so many little things they avoid but that makes people assume all the wrong stuff. The show really messes up in some areas. I absolutely love the shows though, but do the right justice if you’re going to literally name the show “Vikings” not stereotypes that ignorant casuals think may be true. When a formation is abandoned is because a new more sophisticated tactic took its place, or the formation became less effective against the new stiles of warfare. But here they are completely butchering a still perfectly functional formation and use old and primitive unorganized charge.

The fight scenes lack flow. They have that "Percy Jackson" choreographed feel to them, compared to the original series. Perhaps it's a change in the music and cinematography that makes the difference. The acting is....nice...but the characters are thrown together to fulfill some recipe, rather than it being their...destinies. It's pleasant enough, but it lacking. As for the historic aspect, it's a TV show. Deal with it.

@Nay Sayer I'm here. He's in my family line. Vikings used a lot of oral history through their own families. But we have done our geneology. And once done the oral history was correct. Ragnar and rollo werent brothers but I'm from his line to. All 3 of my grandparents are descendents of vikings. 4th grandparent I haven't done the line yet.. And my one grandma was Rus and she even carried on a lot of their traditions she taught me and my daughter. When the guardian of the young king said he'd cut his tongue off with shears for teasing him was spot on. We died laughing. My grandma told me that as a kid when I stuck my tongue out at her. She really wouldn't but scared me to behave. After doing my geneology there's some theories from scholars I'm finding aren't even accurate. Like they don't know what happened to certain lines or families after a certain point, they immigrated to America as early back as the pilgrims time and were farmers, inventors, preachers, some helped build the colonies here, ect.

Honestly I give 0 fucks about that there was a black woman in the show as ruler. What pisses me off is that historically speaking, it's complete BS. They should've made up a character if they wanted diversity, but not take Jarl Haakon and display him in such an inaccurate way💀

@@mrhumble2937 I agree... The show was never historically accurate lol but at least the characters were the same ones from the original sagas. Sure Rollo wasn't ragnars brother etc., but he existed, Lagertha existed, Aslaug existed, Ragnar and his sons too, etc. And Jarl Haakon existed too but they just turned him into someone completely different. It's also the thing that they probably did this for political reasons which is just ridiculous cuz they should've known that their target group is not necessarily filled with the right audience for that material.

@@mrhumble2937 because there was no political agenda behind using Rollo as Ragnars brother. I was born and raised in Germany as a son of Italian immigrants, and having dark features here or a non German name (which I happen to have lol) means constant confrontation with racist comments or direct racism everywhere. And nobody gives 1 F. Especially on the countryside. I will never be accepted as German. I know racism. My grandfather was a prisoner in the concentration camp. + I learned Nigerian Pidgin for my volunteer work with refugees from west africa. And i love them and srsly this has nothing to do with race.
