PSA: You don't really need to use Protect from Melee if you're using this method, even without max gear. I tried it in Ahrim's with blood burst (noticeably worse than blood barrage) and I never dipped below 80% of my max HP.

For farming axe don't finish the quest, only open the first red gas door and stop the quest there. You can run back and forth between first hall and second hall stacking and bursting them, quick kills

PSA you can do this in a private instance when you go to the tunnels during the quest, just make sure you dont peek over the second ledge. respawns and drops are exactly the same
