Not sure if you have access to them but the pallets are amazing kindling! I find them on the side of the road. Bring them home and split with a hatchet. Makes lighting so much easier. News paper then 5-6 pieces of kindling. Then light it. Always starts. Hope it helps

@@randywolcott8145 I have a 2100 square foot 2 story house, if I put this in my fireplace downstairs how much of my house can I realistically heat? I have heatpumps but would love to use this enough to keep them from turning on much

@@jon3296 I don’t have the unit yet. 2 more weeks until I get mine so I can’t give you much info on that. I have a smaller unit in my lower floor of my house. Just can’t get enough upstairs and then to the bedrooms. That’s why we bought one for upstairs. (Raised ranch)

I’m shopping around for inserts, would u recommend this brand and model? I’m also looking at regency 2450. I would love to know how much of my 2100 square-foot two-story house one of these units be able to heat. I have heat pumps but love the idea of burning enough wood to keep them from turning on much

I do like this brand it’s seems very well made and does a fine job heating the house when I use fans to move the hot air twords the back of the house. You have a much larger home I’m heating a 1310 SQ FT home with it. It may do the job of heating your home I believe it was rated for something your size. I went with large flush mount because I liked the large viewing window it had compared to the medium. Hope this helps I would definitely buy again.

Just got a quote for almost this exact model and was quoted $8k installed with the optional igniter. The unit itself was $4,600 plus the face panels were extra. Seems kinda high but is this ballpark of what you paid?

Nick I’m in the SF Bay Area and this area is expensive but the insert and install was $5500 . This was the second shop we visited the first one quoted 7k for iinsert and install.

Should the bottom air controller be pulled out during starting

The bottom handle pushed all the way in gives it full air at that lower vent . Once your fire is really hot and burning for a while you can push the top vent in and pull the lower out and it will slow the fire down tremendously for a slow burn at this point you won’t even see a flame . And the glass gets dirty. So when starting have the lower pushed in and the upper pulled open.

@@martymarfishhunt3622 I have this unit, just recently installed. As you note, it says in the manual to do as you say, but I swear pulling out the bottom handle increases the airflow. I was just watching the coals at the end of a burn, I'd pull out and a small area would flame up, push in and it'd go out, over and over. Sure seemed like more are with it out, unless there's some other reason. You observe this? Also, is your top handle for the baffle difficult to pull and push? Mine is pretty tough and have only done about 5 burns. Thanks and hope you're still loving the Lopi!

I ha my noticed that and I always have mine lower know. Always pushed in . Once in a while I’ll pull the lower out and push in the top one but even with wood at or lower than 20% moisture it gets the glass very dirty and harder to clean. So I leave the lower nob in always. I sometimes push the top one I. To lower the air flow. And no my top and bottom lever / knob pull in and out very easy with no pressure.

@@martymarfishhunt3622 I just had a fireplace xtrordinair installed lower primary air control pushed in for full air and hot burn top control open pulled out till draft has established and fire has established then close to push the heat forward, once the stove is hot and there is a large coal bed i load it to the max let the wood get established and then I pull the lower out just about full and fan on high , I've only had this for 3 weeks and its been burning allmost 24 7

I really love the unit it warms up the house and the large glass is nice for viewing. I also got the hang of starting a fire easily. The glass is easy to wipe clean with a damp paper towel and ash from inside. When burning with both vents open all the way and seasoned wood it doesn’t get that dirty, when you choke the fire down to make the wood last longer it does get the glass dirty. After every burn I like to clean it so I have a nice view of the fire.

Just saw your question. On full power it’s a little loud. Watching a movie we just turn up the volume. At lower settings it’s much quieter.
