What a magnificent young horse this is. So mature for his age and willing to work and learn, combined with such a calm disposition and that young age. He won't waste time and energy fooling around. He's evidently had some great trainers. Loved watching him play and kick up his heels. I hope he'll have a winning career.

I cannot thank you enough for taking us along for the ride and providing great behind-the-scenes glimpses on training your 2-year old. From the first video through his first race, you have brought many of us along as Lord Admiral fans. Through your insights we can feel that Lord Admiral belongs to us too and your viewers are very proud of him and you! Good luck October 1st ~ I'll be watching an cheering. I don't think his odds will be nearly as long in the next race.

He is so beautiful I really enjoyed watching him come onto the track everyday when I was at the gap. He is so big and majestic I always noticed him, no matter how many horses came on the track that day.

Lord Admiral made an impressive move on the turn! He is going to win races for the team if ridden strategically. I suppose this first race is part of the learning process, which will lead to a bright future. Congratulations!

thank you so much for sharing your insight into racing...Lord Admiral has a beautiful stride. You are fortunate to own and train him. I watched the race on TVG and they did not even announce Lord Admiral in the post parade. That changed when he finished 2nd!! I'll be watching 10/1 to see if he makes the race.

It was a great race jay! I saw it live and was trying to get your attention after the race but I guess you didn't hear me. Lord Admiral and offshore moved nice together to the front. I ended up winning around $35. I thought it was pretty cool seeing lord admiral in person he sure is a big boy. Congrats on 2nd place.

So sorry I missed you. I have to admit, I get a bit rattled. After the race I went the wrong way in the club house and had to get turned around by one of the jojck agents to get out to the track.

Wow, what a debut! I wrote and rewrote a comment I tried to post on his last video right after the race, but I fell asleep. However you covered what I was going to say pretty well. My first reaction was also my last, you got out jockied by a Hall of Fame turf master and took a wide trip, but other than that you had the fastest, best prepared and least tired horse by far. The first thing I turned to was Trakus which confirmed what I thought, 25 extra feet but you lost by only 5 feet, THAT is quite significant. Let's face it, it's hard to beat KD on turf, he locks to the rail and bull dozes his way through the field. He may win but he's tough on horses. Your jockey did just fine given the circumstances, though after this I think you've earned Espinoza or Stevens if you want them. What really impressed me was how this 2 y/o in his first race behaved like a horse twice his age! As soon as he settled in, he ran very calmly, consistently and SMOOTHLY, with minimal wasted energy. That mile was no big deal for him, had it been 10f he wouldn't have had any problems. Offshore looked spent while Lord Admiral looked ready for another 1/4 mile. All that strengthening training has paid off. You've got everybody's dream, a serious router who can sprint just dandy. I predict he is going to seriously ROCK at 10f on dirt next Spring. 35 to 1, they will not make that mistake again LOL! You did it Jay! You picked the diamond in the rough at the yearling sale (He ran beautifully with that gorgeous stride) and brought him along JUST RIGHT. Hopefully people noticed and this will bring you some well deserved customers.

I blush! Your observations are spot on. KD forced us out entering the far turn then ducked back inside, then back outside and forced us out again.

Jay C. Nehf He's a rail bully, he sucks you in to playing his game and on turf it works, not so much on dirt. Don't quote me on this, but I think the way to counter him is to just ignore him and run your own race, IF, you have the better horse, which I think you do. The question is do you challenge him early and get to the rail in front of him, or sit just behind him on the rail and go for it later? IDK, but I think either tactic will make him upset because bullies don't like to be challenged. Next Spring on dirt it will be whole different story when the Lord returns. "No more mister nice guy" LOL!

Jay C. Nehf Stevens is your man, he can take you guys to the very top, and he will protect Lord Admiral and keep him from danger while doing it. Gary has been there, done that, and he takes a long view rather than just looking at each race as a paycheck.. Your horse is exceptionally intelligent and needs a jockey of the same level of intelligence to get the best out of him.

I think you need to do more speed workouts with Lord Admiral because his body is so big that he has a hard time moving his legs fast enough. If he moved his legs fast enough he could have easily won that race. Maybe 3-4 furlong workouts. This is my opinion your the trainer but this same thing happened to a friend of mine who is a runner. She was so tall and had the longest stride but she couldn't mover let legs fast enough on the last lap in her mile race in track. The coach had her so sprints and other 200m workouts and she now beats people in the stretch and every time she battles or tries to catch up to someone she beats them. Again this is just my opinion and this text is long enough lol. But someone once told me that horses are exactly like people, but they just can't talk and talking is how we understand what's going on and understand people
@JayCNehfracing
@JayCNehfracing 8 жыл бұрын
So here's the plan: a combination of long slow and sprint. 4 weeks till next race so we will have a 5f breeze for speed, works on the muscles and nerve pathways for coordination, then a mile to work on cardiovascular and mentally prepare him for the distance.

Jay C. Nehf Exactly! He's still a very young horse. He can have all the muscle in the world, but if he doesn't have the cardio stamina to pump the blood and oxygen to that muscle, it means nothing. He looks fantastic! I can't wait to see him back in training after his R&R at the farm.

Who in their right minds races a two year old??!!! This is pure unashamed greed and disrespect for the horse, a living sentinent being. He's already had shin problems. Do these creeps just choose to ignore the fact that a horse only stops growing around 4, 4-5 its only muscling up properly to support that frame, meantime its bones and ligaments are vulnerable. Asking a horse for extremes of performance at this age is criminal and destructive. Don't support the horse racing industry, what they do is indefensible. Their cognitive dissonance is deafening!
@riverp9019
@riverp9019 8 жыл бұрын
There's no such thing as an early maturing horse either. They all mature around the same time ,some however take even longer than 4-5 years of age. These aren't christmas turkeys fed on hormones.

I'll refrain from name calling and I expect you to do the same if you wish to comment here again. If you're going to post an opposing view, please back it up with current information from reliable, unbiased sources. Peer reviewed, independent university based research proved you wrong years ago. Your opinion is based on incomplete data, hearsay, catch phrases and incorrect assumptions. While it is true that horses generally have finished growing at 5 years, research has shown that horses that begin appropriate work in their 2nd year have longer careers with more starts and earn more money. Incidentally, in California horses are not allowed to race until after their 2nd calendar birth date, so they are in their 3rd year before they can start. This is just the beginning of the subject. I leave it up to you top look further.
@riverp9019
@riverp9019 8 жыл бұрын
Oh I see, racing, i.e. maximum exertion aided by the whip is "appropriate work" for a 2-yrold. I will tell you what is appropriate work for a horse beginning it's third year of life, running free in the paddock with it's mates! Lightly backed at three or four depending on maturity with plenty of rest or complete rest until they can be lightly schooled at four and five building up to more strenuous activity as and when muscle and ligaments, bone strength and balance are ready around five. But hey that's when most racehorses are already dead from injury and exertion. No hearsay about it. You choose to believe otherwise not based on any science but economics, pure greed. Most sport horses be they Thoroughbreds, Warmbloods are only in their prime physicaly, seven, eight even older. Mark my words racing two year olds will be banned eventually, just a matter of time and growing public awareness. Thats just one issue of course amongst a littany of practises in the racing industry that are completely unacceptable.
