Man, Bubi is such a pro. Right at the start you can tell if he wanted to he could dive in headfirst and basically lead the stream, but he doesn't. He sits back, let's the silence linger until someone else leads off. Which of course was Mousey, who jumps right into "We're all friends, let's go on an adventure!" mode. Then he comes in, subtly nudges everyone into RP mode by reminding her y'all don't know each other... and the rest, as they say, is history.

Yeah I like how into RP Mouse gets tho. She’s very descriptive about what she’s doing and feeling as her character. I hope they do another DnD stream like this, it was fun to watch and it would be cool if they played these characters again and could play off their bond formed from this story.

Real props to NightmareNexas for being an awesome DM. He not only did a great job running a fun adventure, but he also was very good at explaining the rules and digital tools to the new players. Also, when Nyan suggested to draw and quarter a giant, I was like "holy crap that's dark!"

Yeah he also handles the fact that they’re new to DnD very well, being lax on some rules of DnD and letting them know when they can’t do something. You can tell he made the game fun for them, which I’ve had DMs that literally make it a nightmare for new groups so he’s definitely good at what he does. I played with a DM who wouldn’t let me pull a torch out against Yeti’s because in her mind I shouldn’t know that fire scares a yeti, even though in my mind my character would view that as common sense, because they live in the snow away from fire. Then that DM killed our entire team with monsters way above our team level. I came back to a sequel story with the same DM and a new character that was slightly leveled, she had us go to hell then just bypassed my Paladins aura that prevents people from being charmed while we were fighting succubi. The whole team died that time too. Not fun at all. He did a great job.

I haven't finished yet, but so far I'm loving this. Bubi is getting God rolls, and the DM is doing a good job of keeping things on track without being controlling. Especially love right at the start when he just added a new character to play off Aethels accidental (?) sound board.

Real talk, I'll ALWAYS be down for another actual play show, especially when it involves a bunch of funny and talented improvisers. The skillsets for streaming and for D&D have more overlap than one might think.

Digital D&D is almost never worth it, in my experience. At the very least not for a long-commitment. I'd just up and quit should my group stop meeting IRL, and twitch streams follow the same logic. CR during lockdown was almost too much, and missing players appearing on a screen was really distracting for everyone. I don't think you should bother hoping for a group of people not able to meet IRL to enjoy the game enough to be entertaining for too long. But what do I know, maybe some people make it work just fine

A consistent long campaign for the group is practically nonexistent since Connor is the most noticeably busy of them all. He has to stuff with Trash Taste, KZbin, and most likely other projects behind the scenes. He’s a busy guy that has very rare time to invite Bubi to use his set up to stream.

So I guess either you’ve been unlucky or I got lucky. Also, I should mention, my current group involves 5 other people and I’ve only ever met 2 irl.

I don't know whether you have a better group online, but I cannot believe one could actually have a better time when the people aren't at the table, face to face. Unless you're some anti-social bunch, then I wouldn't know, but offline is always better

I really hope you guys play again soon, that was so good and fun. As a long time DM and player you guys did great, I love seeing new people play it's always so interesting how inventive they are. If I were to give a tip to the players I would say look at the actions you have and learn them, it's fine if it takes time to do it but it will help you know what you can do and make combat smoother. Learning what your spells do helps also, but that takes a little longer to get a handle on. Love you and everyone in the game, m'lord. Such a great crew.

There is a reason why the show Vox Machina was able to do so well, besides Critical Role already having a good following.
