Lord Jamar: Rihanna Shouldn't Disrespect TLC

www.vladtv.com - Lord Jamar shares his thoughts on Rihanna calling TLC "old thots" in a Twitter post after the famed R&B group said they were the number one girl group without having to take their clothes off. The Brand Nubian rapper feels that TLC was just trying to teach Rihanna something, and Lord Jamar says that Rihanna shouldn't have gone after the group. He adds, "This generation has no respect for the ones that laid it down before them."
The New York rapper also speaks about Beyonce's new sexy image, and explains that he doesn't want to hear the famed pop star sing about sexually explicit themes when she's now a mother and a wife. When Vlad brings up Rihanna being the number one female artist, and Beyonce trying to be more sexy to fit in, Lord Jamar says, "Beyonce, I thought you were above these little young girls. You don't have to go that route."

TLC were actually talking about reality shows at first.. And then they started talking about how some record execs sometimes force some females in the music business to be half naked and sexually explicit.. They also said, that if you feel comfortable with doing things like that, then more power to you.. But they also suggested that you don't have to take that being half naked route to be a successful woman in show business period, if you chose not to..

This is Lord Jamar's best interview. He also quietly hit on what's wrong with Black America today. It seems like the older generation is trying too hard to keep up with this generation. He is so right about the generational gap in our community. We are all at fault for this and need to have a healthier dialog between the older and younger generation.

TLC is entitled to their own opinion. From what I understand, they made a general statement regarding females in the industry with no clothes on and Rihanna felt some type of way. TLC said they hadn't seen Rihanna's dress before making the statement. Rihanna should have some respect, however TLC needs to understand that this is the age of scandal, bullcrap and nudity. It's not about music anymore- which is why it's all garage and free. It's all about a contrived scandal and then "music." Regarding Beyonce, I think she got sick of all the little gay-friendly dance songs and decided to go a different route. For the type of music she does and for the type of audience she has, what else can she do that'll keep her on top? Again, this is the age of scandal, bullcrap and nudity.

TLC should be proud of their legacy because their music did not only sound good, but had a message as well. What can Rihanna be proud of other than her money? Her music is aggressive and overly sexual. At the end of the day, most of these so called "artists" now days are just carbon copies of each other. TLC will always have their mark in music.

Diamonds are forever, We found love, Needed me, Umbrella are small example of songs not sexually explicit or aggressive. Rhianna is close to being a singer with most #1 hit single ever if she keeps this up. This is a business. You're no better than TLC and Rhianna. You don't have to "trash" Rhianna to defend for TLC

Theodore Firstly, TLC NEVER specifically named Rihanna. So you're totally wrong there. Slagging off TLC. Secondly, rap was originally about merely rhyming fun, happy lyrics to a hip hop beat. All the so-called gangsters actually hijacked rap music. And made it about violence, guns, getting laid etc. And idiots ate that sh*t up, glorifying the half-baked gangster culture. If idiots weren't so quick to put those so-called gangster rappers on a pedestal, then maybe some people in the world could have a chance to do better in their lives. Instead of trying to join gangs etc, believing it to be "cool". And ending up dead before their kids even learn to say the word Dad.

I'm not going to speak upon the issue on female artists using their sexuality to be relevant, otherwise I will paint myself as a misogynist towards feminists. However, I will speak upon Rihanna's behavior. Based off of her recent antics, to me Rihanna comes across as someone with a big ego. A few examples include the time she hit a fan, the time she got pissed off at her band with no valid reason, and lastly when she made fun of that girl who replicated one of her red carpet outfits for prom. That girl was clearly a fan of hers and Rihanna decided it would be funny to humiliate her on the internet for her own personal amusement. I was certain that that kind of behavior was classified as cyber-bullying. But because she's a celebrity with an immense amount of followers/fans who blithely encourage her behavior, she seamlessly gets away with it. With that said, I personally find her to be the most overrated female pop star of our generation. She is constantly held at a high regard for being an "icon" when in fact she hasn't done anything substantial or influential in music. She doesn't fit within the stature of a "prolific pop star" - she has no outstanding vocal ability or standing ovation worthy stage presence. She's simply a beneficiary of the predecessors of female pop stars who paved the way for her. Her career has been strategically formulaic -everything from her music to her psuedo "bad girl" image. She's been fortunately blessed to be put on by Jay-Z, someone who is highly respected in music, and with a team of people who work incredibly hard to allow her to be in the position she's in. All in all, Rihanna is just someone who got remarkably lucky, and not to mention; a pretty girl with a nasty attitude.

***** Just yesterday, i had to deal with an ugly girl with an attitude at work. I was professional to her the whole time and she had this crazy attitude for no reason. I refused to help her and made her ass wait in line till someone else became free. In my mind i'm thinking "Sweetheart i'm trying to help you. If you turned that attitude off for a second, then we can get things accomplished." Point is, there are a good percentage of females that have this disposition and think that it's edgy and makes them more desirable. Rihanna is a sexy and rich girl with this disposition, now that's a bad combination.

Real talk, there are many things that older people say that is all shit. There are a lot of older cats who are just bitter that they didn't make it out, or they didn't maintain, and what they spit ain't no more than hate dressed up as wisdom. However, you young cats should try to be smart enough to distinguish between the two, because if you roll around dismissing EVERYTHING older people say, then you straight dumb. The mark of intelligence isn't just learning from your own mistakes, its learning from others mistakes as well. On topic, Rhianna is beautiful and makes great music (especially for the club), she isn't the best singer vocally but that isn't important for sales in today's music. However, TLC is next level shit especially worldwide, and they have a catalogue that dwarfs what RiRi has put out so far. Straight CLASSICS. She doesn't have to agree with them, but she sure as hell should have the class and decency to not disrespect them. End of the day, once her looks go RiRi's career is DONE and then she will be old and not relevant, I doubt she will be able to maintain into her 40's like J.Lo or Mariah. So why hate on your sisters like that when at some point you are going to become the very thing you mock?

Too many young people these days go through life thinking everybody who doesn't agree with them is a "hater". They fail to understand that there is a difference between the two, but I guess ignorance is bliss. Also, you are an idiot if you think my original post contained any hate at all. The only thing I can think of is my comment that there is no way that Rihanna has reached close to the level of record sales OR cultural impact as TLC/Mariah. If you disagree, please feel free to show me evidence to the contrary. Otherwise, try and get smarter.

THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS SO I DIDNT HAVE TO SAY IT!!! THIS IS SOOO FUCKING TRUE!!! These older people are wise and I appreciate their wisdom but they just don't seem to understand that things HAVE changed since they were young. There is a whole other world that our youth live in and while adults see it as juvenile, we see it as reality, and just like anyone else, we want to be respected. It's deeply frustrating when adults don't even attempt to hear me out but instead assume that I'm just a naive teenager and ignore what I have to say. That's reverse ageism right there. Granted there are young people that haven't woken up yet and do say and do dumb shit, but that is definitely not all of us. Also, they seem to forget that the day we become full grown adults and have to take care of the country while they are truly old and helpless will be much sooner than the day we become irrelevant. I'm 19 btw.

They should respect elders but don't always need to follow. They would be more likely to usher in new trends so they will be leaders in those areas. The older people just need to learn that they don't necessarily need to adopt a juvenile mentality to adopt new trends. Too many adults acting like children these days.

Bruh, so much truth has been spit here that most won't even get it. It's too potent. Too strong for some. I talk about this all the time. That's exactly what's wrong with this generation. No one wants to listen. And it perplexes me because how is it that (kids) don't want to take the information of those who've came before? When I was younger, talkin' to the "old heads" was a must because we understood that they know because thy've been there before. Now my generation may have had new ideas and different ways of doing things based on the time, but we had the foundation from those that came before. These days, kids are just doing what the hell they wanna do with no respect. You can't even speak to these kids without you wanting to smack em. We never moved like that. We got into shit, but we NEVER disrespected the elder group. NEVER. And he's also right on the image as well. Now I'm not letting Beyonce and her image raise my daughter, but I feel where Lord Jamar is coming from. Being a parent, you have to watch what image you portray because your children will inherit that backlash. You represent something larger than you.

That interviewer got it right, RIHANNA IS THE BEST SELLING FEMALE!! As much as I fucking love Rihanna though I have to admit, she didn't have to disrespect TLC! If they were talking about her, they would have said her name. JUST LIKE RIRI, TLC WERE/ARE VERY BLUNT! SAD MOMENT IN MUSIC HISTORY WHEN ICONIC PEOPLE GET INTO SOMETHING 😔

Yes! I totally agree with him. Even though being a TLC fan, I know the real story. That interview they did was manipulated by the interviewer. They were talking about reality shows, and the new females in general. They didn't even mention anyone's names. But the interviewer took there quote and showed a picture of Rihanna and made it sound like they were talking about her. Like the saying goes, "A hit dog will holler." And Tionne said to TMZ, that Rihanna can bring it and she'll be ready to throw hands. Tionne is a G, a real G, she will fuck a bitch up still like she did back in the 90s.

Jamar is the man. I was talking to someone about Beyonce the other day. What is the point of a song aboug giving head in the back of a limo? She was classy and making it, why be trashy? It seems like with black culture, at some point in time we have to be about ignorance. Props to cats like Jamar and Dave Chappelle.

Double standard. Many rappers have exploited women on videos and songs. Some women who complain about it have been married to and still are married to these rappers. Women can't be sexual unless a man is on camera or on a record telling her to be? I'm not saying I agree with what Rihanna does or Beyonce but come on. Ultimately, people do what they want. These men. Lol.

The way I see it, dismissing another person's point is one of the hallmarks of ignorance. Not only is it fallacious, but it makes you look like you can't defend you point of view, considering you had one in the first place.

Simply put.. you'll never know where your headed until you know where your coming from. Respect your elders and garnish wisdom from them, then apply those attributes to your own. That's how the cycle completes itself and continues to move along. Stop walking blind like you don't see the person your stepping over, that could be you one day. Real talk!

I respect this dude! We need more voices like him telling our generation what we don't wanna hear so we can learn some.

Yo lord Jamar is preaching! Half the stuff these artists do I'll be trying to figure out why they are doing it. They don't need to they've already made millions. They've already built a solid fan base. They're already beloved & respected by said fan base. They're still relevant & people still buy that artist's music. Side note Jamar is also right about respect. But people should respect people in general regardless of what they did in the past. It's just that ones past achievements of laying down a foundation for you is just another reason to respect them. Jamar is right if someone is trying to have peaceful dialogue with you there is no need to disrespect them.
