It's arguable who wrote this song. I have heard a recording of this tune from around 1912 or so, just an instrumental, but it's without any doubt the same tune. I think the tune (or melody) is very old, 19th century probably, but I love the lyrics Kitch put to it. Very typical for him, the lyric has sympathy for its subject. In my opinion, Kitch made this song his own.

FOR years I have wondered what Tay lay lay referred to (in primary school we thought she wined or sumting)...
@SuperSnk114 жыл бұрын
I have heard that it should be "In her Tay Lay Lay" instead of "And she Tay Lay Lay" as the Tay Lay Lay was a material used to make dresses. Regardless which one is correct I grew up singing this Calypso and I am correct to say that it is SOOOO Sweet.

And with respect to Choonkanz below, I don't know if Lion penned lyrics to this tune before Kitch or not. If he did, I haven't heard his version. I love Lion, too, so no disrespect meant. I am pretty confident that the tune itself is very old, though, older than any of the 20th century calypso singers.
