Putting on my botanist hat on and doing a bit of a Jack Hargreaves, broom is a leguminous shrub, of the pea family. They disperse their seed by the pod drying out in a manner that makes them crack open sharply and flinging them out. On a hot summers day you can here the bushes crackling. The pods are black when ripe and lined with a metallic gold inside. Suspect that the prickly broom of the quest is actually gorse, but shouldn't bother a tough dwarf like Bimblin! Apologies if I'm teaching grandma to suck eggs! lol
