I was in Cape Palliser just over 10 years ago and I had no idea about Putangirua, damn! We took a quad bike drive over Ocean Beach (slightly more to the west, on the other side of Lake Onoke), which has got a fun landmark: the local fishermen use really old bulldozers to pull their boats out of the sea. There is a long line of brightly coloured, rusty bulldozers there, along with some fishermen's cabins. And we saw some of NZ's giant eels in a little puddle - they are super scary! I had to giggle at the contrast between Yen with her polyester sweater against the cold and the bare-torsoed Kiwi Viking in the background ;)
@PeterandYen3 жыл бұрын
Hahahaha that was an Englishman and his partner we chatted to them for a bit to make sure neither of us were about to get lost 😂 O! Nice that you went to Cape Palliser for you enjoy your time there? Would have been so cool to see the giant eels! Never would have imagined finding them in a lil puddle seen them only in underground cave streams.
@berttroubleyn34753 жыл бұрын
@@PeterandYen Not getting lost is important out in the wop-wops ;) We didn't go to Cape Palliser, and from the looks of it we should have. But when you have only 2 weeks to travel through the whole of New-Zealand, you barely scratch the surface of what's to be seen. The eels were super scary. It was somewhere in the grounds of the lodge we were staying and someone from the staff dangled a dead chicken from a stick. The violent snapping at the carcass from the eels with their giant bodies is the stuff of nightmares. You don't want those guys thinking your toes look tasteful...
@PeterandYen3 жыл бұрын
😅 my the thought of getting my toes chewed off from giant eels is nightmare material 😂 You're totally right 2 weeks is no where near enough. But it will give you fond memories and a desire to go back which I think is a good thing. After 2 months in Vietnam I still have that hahaha

@PeterandYen3 жыл бұрын
Traveling by car and bnb is definitely more expensive than motor home for a family of 4. You would probably save $50 nzd or more by going with campervan. The big disadvantage however is you will be constricted in the areas you can go as the camper is very large. Both would be great choices but personally yen and I just enjoy the space of an airbnb as well as proper bathrooms. Hope that helps

I'll continue to avoid air bnb until they start paying tax. I imagine they don't pay any in NZ. individuals tend to pay tax but not the multi billion dollar companies. That aside, great video, thanks.

Thanks Cee glad you enjoyed the video. The great thing about airbnbs are you do meet a lot of really nice locals 😁 plus they are more often than not cheaper and better value than hotels
