Looking at this ruling, it does seem that this doesn't get around Opposition Agent. Note that the target player searches their library (which may be affected by effects such as that of Stranglehold) and that the card they find is revealed, even though these words aren’t included in the ability’s reminder text. (2020-04-17)

54:30 ok, so Shadow Summoning tokens come in tapped, and all their reasons are possible, but I think it's actually for flavor reasons. There are 4 cards that make spirit tokens, telling the story of Aragorn calling the Grey host to fulfill their oath made to his ancestor. All of the spirits enter tapped EXCEPT for those summoned by Anduril when wielded by a legendary creature. The spirits come to the battle late unless Aragorn is compelling them to fight using Anduril, his reforged sword pf his ancestors

26:55 You can't actually stack the abilities, since Frodo uses an intervening if. What you can do, is eat the food at the beginning of combat after you make it, but before you go to declare attackers. I'm sure that's what Serge meant, but this is to clarify the specific way you need to do the things. 30:10 Partner With does cause the targeted player to search their library. Remember, reminder text is not rules text, it is just a quick explanation of the most relevant interactions in the set or format it is printed in. It does not get around Opposition Agent or Aven Mindcensor.

What Serge is referring to at 26:55 is resolving Sam's ability at the beginning of combat, then before moving to attacks sacrificing the fresh food.

Wheeler didn't mention it, but Samwise Gamgee gives you a Flash (or Pattern of Rebirth) pile that's 4 mana value - Seer or Feeder, Samwise, Cauldron Familiar. That extra two mana value can be used to get, say, Grand Abolisher, which makes your combo *very* difficult to interact with.

Maybe it’s me misunderstanding, but a lot of the Lotho discussion sounded directed in terms of “if an opponent casts two spells”, but you get the treasure if you cast two spells too. Not sure if that was part of the evaluation.

Did they notice Lotho triggers off of you, not just your opponent. So the ceiling isn't 1 treasure each round, it's 4. A lot of these Hobbits seem really good in Abzan Soul Sisters, along with possibly Academy Manufactor to get Food, Treasures, and Clues each time you would get any one! Throw in Murkwood Bats, Disciple of the Vault, Frodo partners with Sam... This feels like a deck!

Regarding Prize Pig - all I can think about seeing this card is that it starts to get really good with Aetherflux Reservoir (which, I know, is like saying Elvish Mystic starts to get really good with Natural Order) 😁

I was a bit confused by Serge's comment about Frodo not having a way to ring-tempt himself, particularly the part about needing a critical mass of ring-tempting in your deck. Frodo ring-tempts on attack if you've gained 3 life, so even if you're not big on ring tempting, it is just a lifegain payoff, and it tutors a repeatable lifegain creature as well so it does come with its own part A

The issue is that if you're relying only on frodo it's the conditional tempt that takes three turns to start drawing cards.

You draw a card off of Frodo turn 2, but the "draw 2 discard 1" does only come online turn 3.

I think Lotho could be interesting in D&T just because the treasures help offset the mana costs incurred by cards like thalia, rishadan port, and strip mine. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it get cut from that list either.

something that wasnt mentioned when talking about pippin. One advantage it has over mother of runes is that it can protect your legends from karakas which is pretty cool. Giver of runes can do that too but always nice to have redundancy

You know, I wonder how much the additional monarch cards makes Palace Jailer worse. Like the big upside is that killing it doesn't get the creature back. But that can kind of become a downside if every deck has a bunch of random become the monarch cards and they just need to play a card from hand to get whatever was under the monarch back. Doesn't seem like its at that point yet, but they keep printing good monarch cards, so it might hit a point where the exiled creature going under the monarch instead of the Jailer is more liability than upside.

Just think its worth mentioning, no idea if they see play in canlander, but theres 2 more 2 mana creatures that draw a card. Spirited Companion(who is the best of the bunch) and Dusk Legion Zealot(who is most comparable to Mordor Muster)

Small gripe but it’d be nice if the untap on Prize Pig was a may or an activated ability. I know those decks consistently gain 3 at a clip and either way it’s still a mana dork, but I could see templating that works better for controlling the untap when you have Soul Wardens and your opponent’s playing creatures

I know that’s not really what anybody in the crew plays and probably isn’t even a card that has been relevant for years, but for me Lembas is the best Elixir of Immortality ever printed. The part that makes it weak for Artifact decks is what makes me as a hard control player excited for it!

Like this food deck could be super real. There are all those food matters cards they were talking about both from in this set and that had been previously printed. Not to mention the lifegain matters cards like frodo being boosted by some of the best other abzan cards like siege rhino. Additionally, Oko has never looked so good
