Lord Shen is un-ironically the greatest villain in all of DreamWorks movies. None of the others come close with how they effect both the world and the characters on a physical and emotional level. He was cunning, clever, arrogant and insatiably vengeful. He meant more to the main character than any other villain in the Dreamwork lineup. Everything he does makes sense and has thought put into it, all of his flaws have a great amount of setup and reasoning behind them. I will argue till the end of days that Shen takes the top spot by an insanely wide margin and easily can claim a spot as one of the greatest villains in animation.

It had a more serious note yes, but that made the story so much better. War has to be taken seriously even or maybe especially by animation. They fleshed out the world so much woth the second part, we got to see that there actually is a kingdom, shogunate or however the chinese form is called. Most animation movies these days sacrifice a good story for cheap laughs. That is sad, but that makes the rare good ones even better.
@souhiyori80323 жыл бұрын
Too bad they don't wanna expose their kids with dark cartoons like this. Parents also need to show their kids the harsh reality too to make them realize that once they grow up, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. The second movie taught a valuable lesson too. No matter how hard you went through, achieving inner peace is always possible if you embrace the hardships and let it flow. The past cant be changed. Dont hold deep grudges, or inner peace would be impossible. Shen didnt learn this, so he was shocked as to how Po managed to achieve it despite being scarred for life of losing his family throughout his life (before kfp 3). Man, i wish if they make another movie, they would make another that could par the first and second movie. The third movie seemed to lack something and it felt less weight than the first two films. Thinking, “well we had Tai Lung who was a physical impressive villain but had no real connection to the protagonist until the ending, so what if the next villain is someone who isn’t as physically intimidating but makes up for that vulnerability by having a great influence and intellect to create weapons of war while also having an emotional connection to Po and his past.” What a great team to give such a great villain.

@@bayonetonazero2535 They all connect to him in one way. Tai Lung wants to destroy Po because he wants the Dragon Scroll and wants to defeat him to become the Dragon Warrior. @cupcakes73082 жыл бұрын
Shen's connection to Po is personal. Shen committed genocide on Po's village, Shen is the reason his mother was forced to orphan her son so he wouldn't die. Shen had the most impact on Po's life. It's why Po has PTSD. Had Shen done nothing. Po would grow up in his village with his biological parents. He might not have become the Dragon Warrior.

It's baffling that they could turn a peacock, which is usually symbolism for beauty and peace into a bitter and cold force. It's absolutely remarkable how much of a threat Shen is as a character. Not by making him extremely strong, but by making him too cunning for his own good. He knows that he isn't in ths right, but he's gone too far to stop. I think what made Kai a weak villain for me is that the moral of his story was essentially the same as Shen’s: the more you take, the less you have. Both were ravenous warlords trying to fill some void with power. What made Tai Lung different was that he wasn’t motivated by power per se, but instead was driven by a noble ambition (become the greatest Kung fu practitioner) that became poisoned by vengefulness. And Shen of course was unique because he was the first power/destruction driven villain in the series.

I think Kai just has too weak of a characterization. All he is is just an angry bull who is still mad at Oogway over his defeat 500 years ago.
@anicjan46545 жыл бұрын
Tai Lung was motivated by hard work and dedication. He was destroyed by the belief that hard work can do anything, which is not in and of itself a bad philosophy but without ambition being tempered and understanding that fine line it can lead to a crisis of self when you meet a brick wall. Tai Lung couldn't accept his loss and to a fair extent, it was his father ambition and philosophy that failed him. In Shen the story is reversed. Shen fails his parents with a new philosophy of aggression and his own ambition in his creation, canons, and his willingness to invest in its future at any means possible. Not realizing that on that day he a had a choice between family and creation. Tail Lung made no new path in himself. He trusted his family. Shen did and lost his family trust. In the first one po is tempted by his father pessimism to be a simple noodle merchant but by his own luck-and actions...unintended as they were- he becomes the dragon warrior. With shen story, po finds himself drifting from his family in search of identity much like shen did. For different reasons, but at the core the divergence is there. Both of these characters are also dealing with a loss of family. One taken, one ejected from. My point is. Both of these stories had interconnecting themes and trials. I don't remember the third one at all because at his core Kai was just a bad guy martial artists but for some reason the theme of families were continued-with po village- also they ruined the mysticism of it all by literally turning kung fu into shiny green powers. In 2 inner peace was an exalted state that could be argued just as much within the user as in usage of soul jucii or whatever.

The Soothsayer implied that Shen would be defeated by a warrior of black and white. But get this: Shen is a white peacock. And during that final fight against Po Shen was covered in black burnt marks all over is feathers and ropes. So basically Shen was his own enemy all along. Po did not even touch Shen in that final fight. All he did was dodge. Shen was responsible for that cannon dropping on him and killing him. So technically Shen was his own downfall. As Master Oogway said: "One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it." And that is exactly what Shen did.

Oh hey I know you I see you on ShadowDante's channel. But yeah i can see your point because 2 of the Kung Fu Panda villains are on the NPE wiki while all 3 HTTYD Villains are all on the PE wiki page. although actions do speak louder than words and by Actions Shen is definitely worse IMO
@chadpeterson56982 жыл бұрын
@@Samurai-es5wh yeah Shen's actions do help out his heinousness which allows him to stand out compared to Vincent, Kai and Rumplestiltskin. But the villains I think outclass Shen in terms of evilness include Gallaxhar: destroyed his entire planet and came close to destroying Earth Chef: commits mass murder on a yearly basis, uses her status as a way to hold power over everyone, and uses the trolls as drugs. Red Death: is a key factor in the human vs dragon conflict in areas close to or in Berk. General Mandible: sends hundreds of his soldiers on suicide missions and even attempted to kill off his entire colony in order to rebuild it in his image. He's essentially Hopper but without the decency to keep a promise to his deceased mother. Tzekel Kan: the embodiment of everything the conquistadors saw in the natives as he is a manipulative, sadistic, egotistical, heartless, and power hungry priest who nearly had El Dorado revealed to Hernando Cortes just out of spite for being banished. Drago Bludvist: he tried to destroy all of Berk and even admits that his motives of wanting to use dragons as a way to conquer other dragons is hypocritical and a facade that he uses in order to manipulate others. Grimmel: just think of Shen but without any redeeming qualities mixed with Hiccup's ingenuity.
@Samurai-es5wh2 жыл бұрын
I still think Drago is more evil than grimmel tho and a lot of people agree about Lord shen being the most evil. I know Schrafrillas said that Lord Shen was the most evil dreamworks villain and a lot of people agree with him on that including me.

Also when po tell shen "you... you we're there" then he replied "yes... YES I WAS" with no regrets on his face. He's like "what are you gonna do now?"

Shen is absolutely gorgeous, both in design and character. His final moments, he's not even trying to kill po, he's basically trying to destroy everything around him while aiming mainly at po. He's gone so far down the deep end in that single moment that the only way for him to stop is to literally die right there and now. Fav DreamWorks villain, probably favourite animates villain if we don't count Davy jones and Vader as animated

before that you saw him quietly looking at the ship wrecks before he suddenly starts breathing heavily just for Po to show up. Shen was probably about to break down

Shen was honestly the first and one of the only cinematic villains to truly scare me. His malicious nature and terrifying presence struck true fear into my 5-year-old heart. Going back to rewatch this masterpiece a few years ago was a fucking blast, because this is truly one of the best animated villains ever created. (Tai Lung and Kai are great too but I just have more respect for Shen)

An excellently made and well-mixed compilation. One of my favorite villains and one of my favorite villain themes. I'm told Powell was responsible for writing Shen's theme, though Zimmer and Balfe undoubtedly made good use of it in their cues as well.

Most definitely one of Hans Zimmer and Powell's greatest works ever...

Shen is quite possibly my favourite villain just based upon how he strikes his opponents with negative emotions such as fear before enhancing his own strength with rage. It’s like a better version of Tai Lung.

I read a very sad fact were apparently after massacring half the panda population he felt bad but knew that what he already done can not be taken back and had no other choice but to go down the path he made for himself the path of villainy

I dont know why but somehow this theme terrifies me. I had a very rough childhood especially in school. And this theme although it's beautiful and epic brings up all the bad memories I have of that time. It's very bittersweet. Jeez I need fresh air now. Or else I get anxiety
