Just here to say that Marlon Williams is super underrated and he deserves all the attention and success.

I don't think he's underrated, he was even in the movie A Star is Born and has collaborated with loads of artists and is acting in movies as well as doing his music. He's very popular in Australia, where he now lives, as well as here in NZ.

This song is the epitome of the modern world we live in and what the world has become.... it is both poetic and apathetic to our reality....If you were a scholar it might make you think of how religions or the principal of religions are included in our modern age '....to the neon sign we made...'.... The song uses the imagery of light and darkness to show how people's ignorance and apathy destroys their ability to communicate even on simple levels. Its theme is man's inability to communicate with man. The author sees the extent of communication as it is on only its most superficial and "commercial" level.... "people talking without speaking - hearing without listening". No one dares take the risk of reaching out ("take my arms that I might reach you") to disturb the sound of silence. The poet's (character in the song) attempts are equally futile (" . . . but my words like silent raindrops fell within the wells of silence"). The ending is an enigma. The words tell us that when meaningful communication fails, the only sound is silence.

Some of the above comment is that of scholars who studied the piece in depth in the 1980s

I think both of them have a wonderful voice, but not together. I think this showcases Lordes voice while marlon's was put on the back burner and given his talent, it shouldn't have been.

Who is a professional musician who thinks Marlon is off key? A friend and I are debating this - friend thinks he's off and I think he's perfect.

So because it was a memorial concert, its ok to have a couple of artists sing very badly, what is renowned as a great classic song. I like both Lorde and Marlon Williams, but on this occasion, they did not do justice to this beautiful song.
