We've cracked the code We count our dollars on the train to the party And everyone who knows us knows that we're fine with this We didn't come from money But every song's like gold teeth, Grey Goose, trippin' in the bathroom Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room We don't care, we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams But everybody's like Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your time piece Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash We don't care we aren't caught up in your love affair And we'll never be royals (royals) It don't run in our blood That kind of lux just ain't for us We crave a different kind of buzz Let me be your ruler (ruler) You can call me Queen Bee And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule Let me live that fantasy Oooh ooooh ohhh We're bigger than we ever dreamed And I'm in love with being queen Oooooh ooooh ohhhhh Life is great without a care We aren't caught up in your love affair And we'll never be royals (royals) It don't run in our blood That kind of lux just ain't for us We crave a different kind of buzz Let me be your ruler (ruler) You can call me Queen Bee And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule Let me live that fantasy

haven't watched this in ages but in retrospect it's kind of cool that she barely features in her first music video, so you're just left with the minimalist visuals allowing her vocals and lyrics to take centre stage, reducing the importance of her image as a rising pop figure. obvs they went with the more commercial route for the US version, but still pretty cool that she made her debut with this!

I saw (US Version) by the popular one and immediately went to find the original, other than translation, you shouldn't be changing your art to appeal to the US like that. I get she wanted to go the popstar route but still... Believe it or not, plenty of Americans don't need to see lordes face to like her songs... 😅❤. I wanna see the art how the creator intended

God I miss 17 year old me. I can't listen to this song too much because it triggers memories of high school intensely. This is the anthem of being young/broke/pissing around with friends and not caring. This is the anthem of nostalgia. It brings makes me remember friends I used to have that aren't around anymore. Do you miss how ideal you were? Does this make you want to go back?

"a lot of people think teenagers live in this world like 'skins' every weekend or whatever, but truth is, half the time we aren't doing anything cooler than playing with lighters, or waiting at some shitty stop." I'm getting to the point where society considers me old but I've always been perplexed by the romanticization of youth in society, because when I was a teenager and I would hear older people remark how great it must be, I was like "LOL, I have no car , no money and no work experience and have no f'ing idea how to get any of it". If we were really lucky, my friend and I could find enough change in the couch cushions and the washing machine to make a late night run in his car that had a milk carton for a passenger seat, to Denny's to buy an appetizer to share. That was the climax of our coolness.

That most popular songs are unrelatable because they're about luxury and fame and that most people isn't famous or that rich. Peace out and enjoy this masterpiece!

the fact that there is in one video SUCH A NUMBER of easter eggs drives me crazy like yeah Lorde shake that ass omg - we can hear at the beggining the theme of Biting Down - all the guys in the video have a buzzcut, it refers then to Buzzcut Season. we can also notice some scenes with a pool. it refers too to Buzzcut Season (so we live beside the pool, where everything is good). - the scene where the boy looks in the mirror at his bloody teeth can be an easter egg of White Teeth Teens. - at the end of the video there is a tennis court and the "yeah!" from Tennis Court.

I've never seen a diamond in the flesh I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies And I'm not proud of my address In the torn up town No post code envy But every song's like gold teeth, grey goose Trippin' in the bathroom Blood stains, ball gowns Trashin' the hotel room We don't care We're driving cadillacs in our dreams But everybody's like cristal, maybach Diamonds on your timepiece Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash We don't care We aren't caught up in your love affair And we'll never be royals It don't run in our blood That kind of lux just ain't for us We crave a different kind of buzz Let me be your ruler You can call me queen bee And baby I'll rule (I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule) Let me live that fantasy My friends and I, we've cracked the code We count our dollars on the train to the party And everyone who knows us knows That we're fine with this We didn't come from money But every song's like gold teeth grey goose Trippin' in the bathroom Blood stains, ball gowns Trashin' the hotel room We don't care We're driving cadillacs in our dreams But everybody's like cristal, maybach Diamonds on your timepiece Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash We don't care We aren't caught up in your love affair And we'll never be royals It don't run in our blood That kind of lux just ain't for us We crave a different kind of buzz Let me be your ruler You can call me queen bee And baby I'll rule (I'll rule I'll rule I'll rule) Let me live that fantasy Ooh ooh oh Ooh ooh oh Ooh ooh oh We're bigger than we ever dreamed And I'm in love with being queen Ooh ooh oh Ooh ooh oh Ooh ooh oh Life is great without a care We aren't caught up in your love affair And we'll never be royals It don't run in our blood That kind of lux just ain't for us We crave a different kind of buzz Let me be your ruler You can call me queen bee And baby I'll rule (I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule) Let me live that fantasy

If you like minimalist music it's out there. Westerman is a good British artist who does this style. "Confirmation" was his biggest debut, its a stripped back, complex and emotive song. But most of his stuff is fantastic tbh. Sometimes the unecessary fluff is detrimental and the message of the song is less impactful... It definitely takes a good producer to know what you can afford to lose. This is a mainstream song that went this route and is why it's still holding up. Love it.

i cant stand the music that are out there today like on the radio and the billboards. usually a Metal, Rock, Classic, Jazz kinda guy. but i have been taking a real liking to Lorde! she is amazing. She is not just another brick in the wall in today's music scene.
@monoko199211 жыл бұрын
Jazz? da faq dude classic? mindblown! please! she has "something" new but please don't tell me that she's an innovator, don't compare with CLASSICS (not only Chopin, included rock classic: Pink Floyd?) or Jazz (what kind of crap did you call Jazz now?) so, I know that this is a good critic from your part to her, but express yourself right about the "kind" of music that sounds now (actually the most of them crap).
@LydiLouiKats11 жыл бұрын
Precisely, she's got a classically trained voice (at 16 I doubt she's had training) a truly natural gift! And she writes all of her own lyrics, which are outstanding! And the beat and small band sound are all very catchy! :) -- She most likely will be going places! -- As long as she is not too wooed by the $$$ and changes her style too much! :)
@jorgenschroen544011 жыл бұрын
Lupita J.A. just because i like classical music (or any other music for that matter) doesn't mean i am comparing her to any legendary artists in that particular genre. i am not really a fan of any music out there today. not the popular ones or "big" artist that gets played over and over and over. And she WRITES her own songs! is that too much to ask from an artist? This girl has impressed me. i didn't say she was innovative btw, i said she was unique and not like the other stuff that is out there. and btw, who does not love some smooth jazz? when referring to jazz i was more referring to "jazzy" rock bands kind of stuff.

For most of the song yeah, it really isn't that much except the drums and singing. It's really cool how she made such an awesome song with such little, but during the chorus there is harmony. Just by adding the bass, (I think there also might be a pitched drum) it adds harmony by contrasting with what she is singing, 2 notes is enough to add harmonic movement. I actually think it's interesting that this is what she chose to do, because I think it's actually a very clever and fitting artistic choice, think about it. The song is about living a simple, care free and minimalistic lifestyle. I think that's the point of the music, there isn't that much to it, but it's enough to make people enjoy it :)

I'm as iffing about the comments I read, this is the first time I noticed you yourself actually commented and you are BRILLIANT!!!! I knew you were young and I never researched why or how this song came to be because I lived that when I was your age or some such stuff and I'm actually a TRUE "Royal blueblood "american"" Ma family is from British Royalty and I've no claims on anything other then proving ma roots because I ADORE England and ma family still owns Knebworth House in England.......will be a bit before I prove it and it's not something I want to prove because I think I'm better than anyone else I literally have posted this on the site I chat on many diff times for many different reasons most that would make you roll your eyes at how childish "older adults still are" ...this woman is like "wire royalty" (the site) I post this all the time saying I'm really royalty and a few min ago I said...I dun have to be "wire site royalty I'm really descended from Royal's but I'll always be "Kimber from the block" ...The racing thoughts you have I've always had as well ma best advice is keep on writing and singing AND DANCE and keep enjoying your TRUE friends because TRUE friends are HARD TO find ! I am SO happy to "meet" you and see your own heartfelt words without a song.......Thank you..you seriously have an impact on ma personal life with this song ta to all your friends ma you all stay safe and always be true to yourselves and each other....Much Love!
