I can still remember the times when my family and I lived in Arizona, this was nine years ago, I was four. I can remember everything about my hometown, my familiar, nostalgic town I miss and hope to move back to once I'm 18. My dad would drive through the desert, the SiriusXM radio playing this song. I would stare out the warm window as cacti swooped by really fast, the desert surrounding the highway. I miss those times, and I'm looking forward to go back, listen to this music over and over again with my children in the backseats as I drive through the warm desert. No matter what time of day it is.

Now, I know that the lyrics probably have a very different meaning from what I'm imagining. But as a teenager with acne that isn't exactly severe but that also is far above the average that I see at my school, the lyrics "Now bring my boys in, their skin in craters like the moon" as well as the following line or two brought a smile to my face, given the many craters that have been becoming a part of my face since 5th grade, it's a far nicer way for me to look at the wreckage. I've had a lot of self esteem issues over my life, and while they're still not gone, it's always nice to come across a thing that makes you feel a bit less bad about yourself, no matter how small that thing may be :)
@gypsyblack59943 жыл бұрын
I had a similar problem. Mine was so bad some people thought I was using meth! I'm not joking! I know how you feel, I wore a shit ton of make-up, my hair in my face, anything to divert attention from my acne. I learned it was most likely a hormone imbalance. It went with time. Also, I learned to embrace them and show them off, because I figured I had to accept them. Once I fully accepted them, they went away..... well I still get the odd, pimple (during that time of the month). My skin is smooth now. It will go away... try not to focus on them too much. Remember, nobody sees them as badly as you do. They are not as bad as you think they are. Ok hun, I hope I didn't bore you with my little rant. Take Care! Cheers!

Imagine this. It’s 2013. you’re at some sort of party and running around with all the little kids. You have face paint, sweets. You’re not worried about anything. This song is playing. There’s a person doing a dance at the front and you’re copying them with all the other little kids.

WHY IS EVERYONE DEPRESSED IT MAKES ME MAD FOR GETTING HURT!
@mylenealine51093 жыл бұрын
Because in times like this, we are treated like a child and everyone expect us to behave like an adult. We have alot of social pressure and people get mad at every little thing we do wrong. We know whats going in in the world, we want to make the world better and we dream big but we feel like were held back by our parents who tell us to think realistic. We feel like we do everything wrong, and say everything wrong while ALL we want is to be ourselfs, have fun but if we do that, people laugh at us. We feel held back and this song make us not care about that and make me at least feel more like its MY life and that i can do what i want because its all MY decition

Laura Wilson Not many people actually care for the artist, as their songs, art, videos, ect. are actually the famous part. Don't believe me? Look at famous people throughout history who have actually done some pretty controversial stuff and still are popular because of their art. Example, Micheal Jackson, great singer who started a music revolution, but evidence of him being a child molester is often over-looked despite evidence because of the fact so many people loved his music.

When I was young, my understanding of this song was much like Lorde’s own explanation of the song being about adolescence. Growing up and coming back to this song for nostalgia’s sake has made me look at it differently. Now, the song about people coming together in solidarity and no longer throwing their hands up anymore really gives me the feeling that this song could generally be about the working class and the struggle of the average person, and how we have to stick together.
@whereisthesauce28819 ай бұрын
I kind of thought it was about war. houses, land, people getting bombed, like the lyrics said “the cups got broke , shards beneath our feet” or when she says tired of throwing up hands in the air for peace from all the disaster happening. She just wants peace and all of us to feel free not in this constant battle. but idk what it’s actually about tbh

Heard Royals by Lorde. Loved it, then got sick of it. Thought she was just another reckless, annoying, stuck-up teenager who wanted to sound badass by putting out rebelling music. Heard this and I absolutely LOVE it. Never heard a teenager that knows how to live life without the money, sex, and drugs. There's more to life than just that and I think Lorde is doing an excellent job of proving that. #teamlorde
@elenamonterreymontes65410 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you 😄 Her lyrics are so meaningful ✌
@flinkbag67879 жыл бұрын
Keira H I find that a little insulting. Teens these days aren't nearly as vulgar as you think they are. Less than half of us are negatively influenced by sex, drugs and money, while the rest couldn't care less about those teen cliches. Majority of the 21st century teens are incredibly intelligent and sophisticated people with open minds. Lorde is a fine example for what the music industry (and society in general) SHOULD support, but a lot of us are like her. Which is why her fan base is mainly comprised of teens: we can relate to her :)
@keirahartley6199 жыл бұрын
sophisticated and intelligent? tell me. since when was getting pregnant at 16 sophisticated and intelligent? when was exploiting your body sophisticated and intelligent? MAJORITY of teens do that and are hooked on drugs and sex. so find it insulting if you want but if you find my comment insulting, then its most likely directed towards you.
@flinkbag67879 жыл бұрын
Keira H Tell me, are you a teen? I don't think you would understand if you're not. Adults have such a negative view of teenagers that it has a tendency to rub off onto everyone else. I agree with you in parts: there are a lot of stupid and disgraceful teenagers out there, but majority of us aren't like that at all. Especially older teens. Growing up where I live, I can say with certainty that less than half a school year group will be into sex, drugs, etc... The rest of us couldn't give a damn. And no, your comment is certainly not directed at me. Im just sick of people bagging out teenagers, because most of us don't deserve it.
@flinkbag67879 жыл бұрын
And saying you've 'never heard of a teenager that knows how to live life without money, sex, or drugs' says more about you than anything else. Maybe you've just met more ratbag teens than good ones, who knows. What I do know is that you're stereotyping and discriminating the youth of today, which is not on.
