my older sisters best friend, since childhood, was diagnosed with cancer in about highschool. she went through chemo therapy of course and all that went with it. she was a soccer player on the same team as my sister and they were her family. she was a legend. she beat cancer towards the end of highschool and went on to a nursing school because she wanted to help people. unfortunately, her cancer came back and she died before she got to graduate. everytime i listen to this song i start to cry because of this. i was young and barely knew anything about her, only that she and my sister were inseparable. my sister recently shaved her head in honor of her lost friend. i can’t help but think of them whenever i listen to this. it’s such a beautiful song, and truly can mean different things to different people. my sister lives on with her buzz cut for her best friend and i will stay crying to lorde songs.

"I live in a hologram with you" is like a punch to your soul. You realize all the blissful moments you've had with each other: all the late-night adventures sneaking out, kissing in someone else's bathroom, talking until the sun wakes up; are all just fleeting memories that will never be a part of reality. At the end of the day, you both come home to a house you hate and live a life you dread. It's always too good to be true.

So when I heard this song live. it literally changed my life. Lorde is explaining being a youth in the 21st century. having to cut your hair when you grow up... because you can't get a job with long hair. getting your cut during buzz cut season. the final act of your youth. the men on the news, covering only negativity to the public, she explains how hearing that changes your world, because when you are introduced to the horriors of the real world, the world all around you begins to change. She recalls her memories with her friends where nothing is wrong but nothing is true. The truth she sees is the explosions on TV, not what she does in her holographic world of being a teenager . She realizes how small her world is, and how small her experiences are such as, freedom, friendships, youth. because She understands that living it up with her friends by the pool is a fucking joke compared to the real fear out there, whether that's being a teenager fearing the loss of youth, or a teenager in Syria fearing being shot at or bombed. She is telling us, none of us are real here.. because we distract ourselves from the terror we all experience, and cover it up with trickery. Lorde feels everything, I think we all do... we just are afraid.

"I remember when your head caught flame" is from when she accidentally set her friend's hair on fire in a Chemistry experiment but he laughed it off and wasn't mad. The song is about summer (which she has said), It's about the feeling of summer vacation, when you fall out of routine and have all that freedom it's like you're living in a haze, everything is good and you want to stay out all day. "And I'll never go home again." She doesn't want this peaceful time to end, but she knows that it will, she's only blocking it out of her mind. I like it because even though it's a song about summer it's not about surfing and bikinis, It's about the end of school feeling that anyone still in school understands on a deep level. Summer has a different way of life that's for sure, your life moves to a totally different beat and everything feels strange and good.

Yeah, there are so many amazing songs in Pure Heroine and The Love Club. It'll be interesting to see how she does at the Grammys but regardless, she's pure talent. Her music makes a lot of the sex/drinking/drugs/party themed music seem rather shallow, not that I dislike it, lol.

This song is so honest, so powerful, so striking it nearly makes me cry the normality of it just opens you up. Just makes your heart beat faster, your mind race while your head is full of thoughts, your stomach fluttering with anxiety but that's okay.. Because you feel like you just want to cry but that's okay. It means you can relate, you have compassion. Yet you are scared

I remember screaming this song with my childhood friend while driving down the freeway at night, not knowing what was happening, and barely what the lyrics meant. Now I’m older I realise that this song truly sums up my life as a teenager in the world today. We know our perfect put together life is a lie, we distract ourselves from the misery of the world.

This song is very special to me, even after Melodrama its still my favorite song of her. All the emotions i felt listening to that song. I was lost, scared, and so confused at 14 -15 years old. I remember thinking i wouldn’t survive my teenage years. I attempted suicide two times and I lost contact with my childhood best friends in one year. My parents fought a lot, i didn’t talk to anyone bout my issues. Hearing this now at 21 hits different. I evolved and I opened more than i ever could. I made it.

Thank you! I don't know much about what anxiety must feel like, but I never have panic attacks, or breathing problems, or anything like that. I guess a certain stress is always there, never leaving, but I don't know if that's related to any disorder. The only thing that I've found really weird was this feeling that I'd get every now and then, that the world isn't real. It's not so often now, like barely ever, but it'd been happening for years, and I just didn't know what it was. And even when I searched on the internet, I only found one link, where it said that it could be a side effect of anxiety or depression, or something like that - pretty vague

it is past midnight april 15 2019 and i am on the verge of tears. i don’t know why. i remember replaying this song over and over in high school, I would quietly draw in my grey lit room as the rain poured outside. I was 15-16 and it just comforted me throughout the loneliness of high school. now that i’m a third finished with university, i want to cry. it’s so rare to be growing up with an artist that you know will be talked about for years to come. i guess i’m just thankful lorde is there to accompany me throughout my own life. it’s like revisiting an old friend everytime.

Lorde is one of the most talented artists I ever heard of. Her music is amazing. It's strange, and hard to explain what I mean but it digs under your skin, makes you think about things. She's got a gift. Her lyrics are different, it's different than any music I've ever heard. But they relate to things in some strange way that I can't explain because I never thought someone could do that with just words, just a song. All of her songs give me a weird feeling, it's not bad, but it's ...different. Her lyrics make me sad, emotional, they bring sad memories to mind, but also they can make me smile, feel amazing, and make me think of the happiest times ever. I've personally never seen another artist that does what she does with music, and there are a lot of good artists out there. But this, what she does with music, is unique and absolutely amazing. She constantly has me in awe of her talent. Definitely my favorite artist by far.
